The story of the West Continental Trading Company started out as small, but not humble whatsoever. The man behind the company, "Sammy", literally only had one cart, a mule, and a small fishing boat to his name. But the purpose for both quickly changed when a package for his wife arrived in a poor condition after using the imperial trade fleet to ferry a bunch of items from Meikyo to Rhisoka.
Outraged by this, and the poor customer service he received, he decided to start up his own little trading and transport company just to show the imperial fleet that he could do better. He used his cart to personally transport things on land to the provinces and he used his fishing boat for short distance travel on the seas. While he wasn't always successful, he managed to impress enough people and soon word spread of "Sammy's Shipping Company".
One cart became two. A small fishing boat turned into a merchant sloop. Employees were hired. And when his transports were attacked by bandits or wildlife, he hired a small group of mercenaries to help him out. The small house on the docks of Rhisoka's northern port turned into a warehouse complete with its own docks. After a couple years, "Sammy's Shipping Company" turned into the "West Continental Trading Company". And the size of the company only grew after each successful deal.
Centuries later, it is the biggest and richest independent company in the world, surpassing even the Imperial merchant fleet. The company has hundreds of ships in its fleet, thousands of employees in its payroll. It has its own, well supplied, army to guards the ships and caravans. Their dealings are seemingly endless. From weapons, to materials, to produce, to people, the company will transport anything for the right price and has branches in every major town or city where people can get in touch with them. Their branches have even turned into full blown trading hubs where people can deal and trade.
At the end of the day, the company succeeded in its goal. And in the process, has become a reliable and trustworthy friend to peasants and nobles alike from all over the world.
