Ruben had done this. That was the only thought that went through the elf's mind. He had taken advantage of their trust poisoned them all, even the animals. The vile witch's brew had twisted his mind, filled his ears with the countless screams of voices he did not know, and polluted his sight with visions of eldritch horrors from beyond the veil of life and death.

Now there were two thoughts in the elf's mind: Ruben had done this. He will pay.

Slowly the cacophony of voices and visions coalesced into a single united force in his consciousness. The sea of emotion that once drowned his psyche had formed a maelstrom, spiraling down into itself. Every ounce of grey matter focused on a single purpose... Rage.

"So this is the thanks we get, hm? For our coin, our company, our trust... You would poison us all. Put your cursed hex upon our ale, and then taunt us with talk of your "generosity" ... your treats... your LIES!"

Alvilda abruptly stood to his feet, stepping away from the table and slamming the mug of tainted ale to the floor in a single fluid movement. Far from erratic, his movements were purposeful and precise... almost too precise actually. It was almost like watching an impatient puppeteer rushing through his routine.

"You will pay for this insult. As the woman says, my money or your blood. So are you going to show us some generosity, or am I going to have to beat it into you?"

One look at Alvilda's face painted the picture of a man unhinged, caught in a trance-like state of pure righteous fury. His pupils dilatated like black saucers, set against the scarlet of his bloodshot glare. The elf's teeth dripped with froth. His own name was no longer important. Only cold bitter hatred.

Ruben teased Caleb, touching him and asking for his company. He didn't even give Caleb time to answer before he was off playing host. Caleb grinned to himself, he could taste the tingle of the drug from his mug, and he didn't dislike it. It was a shame he wouldn't enjoy it like the others.

He turned his head as another man entered the run down inn. It sure was popular for being so shabby. He nodded to the new victim, a coy smile on his lips as the scene unfolded before him.

Suddenly the small elf snapped, his voice shaking the dust off the rafters. This was a different kind of anger, drug laden and enraged, he was a threat. Caleb stood slowly, facing the enraged elf. "He provided food and drink, you should have realized the tainted fare you would get coming in here, what did you expect?" With inhuman fluidity, he breached the space between himself and the elf. "I suggest you leave if you're so unhappy, or I can make you." His blue eyes turned a honey gold as he stated the elf down. He was itching for a fight.

Something about the strangely dressed fellow trotting about and serving he and the others tugged ever so slightly at something intangible in Espen's intuition, just enough to bring him a level of unease as he left the table with the Elf, Woman, and feline to retrieve Espen's drink.

He'd not traveled this mountainside path before, so he had no idea that this building had been abandoned, left for nature to claim it's walls until very recently. It brought a thoughtful hum to his lips as he peered over at the two of them before the bartender returned with his order. "This place seems... suspect. Are the two of you regulars? He offered with his best attempt at a friendly smile, a large hand sliding up to his face to pull aside some of his golden hair. He doubted the cat would be offended by the omission, the cute creature seemed all too happy to rest in the lap it'd found.

Even as he spoke, he saw odd changes beginning to take shape in the elf. It was subtle at first; a clenched fist, spasming muscles, and dilated eyes. He recognized the surge of emotion even before it fully enveloped him; it was just as would happen to his Father when Espen would be caught sneaking out of the village at night, that unbridled rage.

Espen's eyes narrowed, his nails digging against the wood of the table as Ruben dropped his drink on the table. He paid the man a look, nodding politely. "Ah, many thanks." He raised the mug to Ruben in a show of gratitude before bringing it to his lips...

"You would poison us all. Put your cursed hex upon our ale, and then taunt us with talk of your "generosity" ... your treats... your LIES!"

The echo of the mug on the table and the scraping of its legs against the floor filled the room soon after, the elf rising to his feet in a livid fury, coming face to face with the young man who'd been seated at the bar. The mood in the tavern had gone from uneasy to perilous, and Razareal slowly lowered the mug he'd been offered away from his lips. If the elf's words were true, he likely didn't want to be drinking here. Instead, he would rise from his seat and take a few large steps towards the enraged elf, reaching out to grasp him by the collar and pulling him away from the bar, his voice a snarl of warning as he looks down at the frenzied male.

"There is no need for violence here tonight. If you are angered, take it out on something that truly wishes to battle." He turns his head to look at Caleb. "There is no honor to be found in a drug-addled opponent. He is not of sound mind."

Chester had never felt this horrid before, it was a new feeling he'd never want on his enemies, let alone his friends. His shaking would become uncontrollable as he stood in the ladies lap in a mad panic as he quickly glanced at her "Mother? is that you?" Chester now visibly shaken as he was certain that his mother died two years prior.

Chester would wrap his paws around the neck of the lady as he wailed uncontrollably "M-Mom, I-I've missed you s-so much!" He was overjoyed to see his mother, and quickly forgetting that fact that his mother was in fact, dead.

With Chester hallucinating his mother, he'd purr loudly, and tightening his grip around the ladies neck, rubbing his face up against the lady whom he thought was his mother, and not another patron of Ruben's inn.

Yes! Yes that’s it! Let the fucking anger out!” Ruben roared back at the elf. “This entire world is fucking bullshit. The whole of Avsolom is venom you swallow daily and now you’re finally seeing the truth of it. You can trust no one, you are no one, everything is. In. HERE.” Ruben stabbed at his temple violently with a grimy finger. “You think it’s velvet walls and clean plates that make an inn safe?!”

He laughed madly and swept Caleb’s mug to the ground in an imitation of the angry slam Alvida had made. “This place is truth! You knew what I was! You saw a wretch, you saw filth, and you expected more? I am no more than this!” Ruben sank to the floor, as if his own words had struck him. He looked between Alvida, and his two saviors. The giant who had just arrived, and the vampire. Why had they saved him? Short as the elf was, Ruben would have to scramble upstairs for a bomb or risk diving behind the counter for Patricia. Either way, both seemed either less effected or hadn’t taken a full dose.

Ruben crawled on the floor to the woman, popping up to stroke Chester’s fur. “Mummy’s here.” He muttered, eyeing Alvida. He tried to comfort Chester, rubbing his ears with greasy fingers.

“You.” He pointed at Alvida. “Sit the fuck down. Listen to what the Mysts tell you. Look at me. It’s all I take.” He held out his arms to let the elf look at him.

If Magicia could have properly fed enough to regain some strength, she'd be marveling in the chaos, and could even perhaps enjoy Ruben's ranting. Unfortunately she was weak and exhausted - now with a cat rubbing into her thinking she was its mom. She did not have a hint of maternal instict, so she tugged at the cat's scruff in frustration. "Get off-"

While she managed to pull Chester back, his paws managed to fumble her hood enough to knock it back, revealing the face she preferred to keep hidden. Perhaps it was for good reason. It was ghastly and pale, purple eyes sunken into dark pits, flesh clinging to bone - where there was flesh. A couple of patches seemed to be rotting, and strange gray swirling marks crawled their way up her neck and cheeks. Her hair was pitch black and clung to her scalp in a long mass.

Flustered, she dropped the cat onto Ruben's head, desperately scrambling to pull her hood back up. "S-stupid cat!"

So much for keeping a low profile until she recovered.

"I'll feed you your own teeth before I let you get a drop from me, parasite!"

Alvilda was prepared for death in that moment. His fists were balled so tightly that his nails threatened cut his palm open. He sprang forth... or he would have, if not for the hand of the giant behind him. He flailed like an animal caught in a trap to try and break free and lash out at the vampire just out of reach... It took him far too long to realize why he wasn't moving.

He turned to face Espen with a scowl in his eyes and a snarl in his teeth. Wrenching himself free of the unwanted hand, the elf tossed himself out of the way. He was already at enough of a disadvantage without being trapped between two foes at once. Quickly he arranged himself so both Espen and Caleb were right where he could see them, before returning his attention to the stranger..

"Not of sound mind?! If you had any idea how much sound was going on in my mind you..." He took a moment and squinted, staring the stranger down with a look of confusion more than anger in that moment. Was this man real, or another side effect of the poison? Could the hex make him feel as well as see? "... well no matter what form you choose to wear, I won't be wearing your hand on me any more. You and your talk of honor and... pants."

The elf stood still for a moment, frenzied eyes taking stock of the situation. It seemed like the entire tavern had eyes on him, and it seemed all but the woman and the cat were ready to beat him down. There he stood alone, one man against all...

It was all so overwhelming. A talking cat mewling for its mother as a woman with the face of death cursed its name. The conflicting calls to violence and peace from the voices outside.

Ruben said something about... "listening to the Myst". Well, the Myst's instructions seemed simple enough. Mostly various calls to action from voices across many impossible realms all in a cacophony in his brain. Something like...

See, very simple instructions on paper. But these primal psychotic impulses were at odds with what was left of Alvilda's rational mind. There were too many, probably all magical or otherwise outside of his circle of knowledge, and he was not well at all.

The conflicting instructions seemed to be rather taxing on his drug addled brain. His breathing intensified for a moment as he seemed to be processing... processing... Until he stood up straight, still dripping with foamy drool.

"...no wait, if she's purple then that means that there's enough ham in the South Pole to keep the teeth from screaming. False alarm."

He nodded as if this rectified everything. He took a moment to reach out the window and grab something from his elk: a leather trimmed wooden round shield. And with that he meandered his way back to a corner to... gnaw on his shield. His rational brain was content knowing that he had some form of protection, while the drug addled mind was happy to finally find a way to get the bees out of his teeth.

Caleb and the elf were interrupted by Ruben and his howling. Caleb found the whole scene amusing. This was almost as fun as killing someone for the fuck of it. The elf was getting more and more agitated, even calling Caleb a parasite. How cruel. Caleb stood, smirk planted on his lips as the elf went on for the attack.

Caleb looked up as the swing missed, the elf held captive by the newer of the patrons. "Who said I wanted honor?" He chuckled and shook his head, letting him have the small elf. It was a bit of a buzz kill, but he let it slide. There was still time to fight later.

The cat was rambling, Ruben was rambling. It seemed only three of them had held onto their sanity. Caleb turned to the girl as the cat clung to her. Her hood dropped and he studied her. It was as much as he expected, he could smell the decay earlier when she walked in. "No point on keeping your hood up now, princess."

Ruben watched intently as Alvida settled into a corner to chew on his shield. Things had been tense for a moment, but like all things in the Myst it settled eventually. Ruben knew how to determine fiction from reality; one of the many side effects of taking far too much of it in. You could learn to disregard little mad things as inconsequential. He smirked at Alvida. “Good boy.” He said, satisfied, and picked up his plate. Discontent with the trip to the kitchen, he simply launched it over the counter to clatter messily somewhere in the back.

He did go to pick up Chester after the girl rudely pushed him off. “You. You, my friend, have overstayed your bedtime.” He tapped Chester’s nose with a smile, and tucked him over one shoulder like an unruly toddler. He looked around the room. “Kitchen’s closed. Kid’s got to get to bed!” He announced loudly.

If anyone so much as looked at him sideways he glared at them. “I’m a single mother making a difference. Gods you people can be insensitive.” He huffed, marching behind the counter to grab his pack and club. “Come, Patricia.” Club over one shoulder and Chester over the other, he simply walked out of the hazardously damaged inn.
