Lantheri Wilds
Mountain Pass

Charting a path through the Lantheri Wilds had been difficult, if not for the aid of local tribes Galadaeros might well have gotten lost months ago but with their help, he had managed to penetrate the thick enchanted forests. His guide left him here unable and unwilling to go much further, they knew little of the terrain and even less about the world beyond the spine that split Lantheri from the lands beyond.

According to his father, this would be the safest crossing into a new world where mortals are born, die, and - most importantly - create new songs. He was grateful for all his father had taught him, but the stories and legends shared between them had lost their bite.

"Wylintasec mendilsi mentisininecta, sil viltima rentis da silliit altina." The elf said, he was offering advice; centuries prior a battle took place here, at the Maw of the Prayer Mountains and was one of many sites the Empire had briefly occupied in its attempts to conquer the unconquerable. Now, it was the most travelled route for the so-called adventurers and treasure hunters from beyond the spine.

"Fristi milta orisa nifint." Galadaeros said in thanks to his guide and advanced forward into the pass, gradually the green faded into the stone-cold grey and he winced more than once at the stale air, he had lived all his life amongst the Myst breathing it as regularly mortals did the air and now he was leaving that behind giving the terrain a barrenness to it none could ever hope to describe. Slowly a path began to present itself, rock that had been worn by the movement of cart burdened beasts, deadwood littered the canyon below. His head twitched and spotting a nearby mountain goat he growled faintly.

By midday, Galadaeros had settled beneath an outcrop taking shelter from the rain while he took several chomps from the goat's body.

Leaving home was, well if he was honest it was a very complicated bag of feelings that had been rather shaken about in the last few days. For one thing he had never expected to *miss* any sort of cave, even one that he’d grown so used to since his meeting with his partner and family, Yet the curiosity of the boundless sky was also endlessly appealing.

Except the lack of myst, that was just downright unpleasant.

Still…he had yet to create a corporeal projection since they had left the veil, even now he just floated besides his partner, in a form that would be invisible to others and reciting words from one of the many books to provide a sense of familiarity in this…strange land.

Looked up at the shifting sky with a sense of curiosity and excitement, wondering just what would await them in this place…and if the rain would ever stop.

with a well practice sigh he pulled the rain and bloods spatter from Galads form into his mirror along with what remained of the dead goat, it was unlikely that Galad would get more nourishment from it but there were still a few parts of it he could use in the future, especially if what their farther had said was true.
…..come on.....when was this rain going to end? He wanted to see what this palce looked like in sunlight!

Galadaeros blinked and the mountain goat was gone the only indication it ever existed was the puddles of blood left behind, but even that was beginning to fade. Scraping his claws against stone he cut a light groove as he stretched, "I thought you disliked the rain," Galad teased standing up to taste the surrounding air.

It was damp enough already to mask the scents of any nearby beasts, seeing as they had not yet been attacked he concluded that their position - for now at least - was secure. The Wilds were dangerous and they weren't so far away yet for him to let down his guard.

Surveying the cave a muted dull light sparkled from the damp reflecting all the way to their present position, a small but comfortably sized cavern. Behind them the cave went deeper likely spiralling out into the mountains, listening closely he could make out the distant echo of rushing waters with an undertone of creaking. "We can do some exploring," He said turning back, "help keep your mind off it?"

He sent a huff of amusement through their link at the ribbing before answering whit his own “I'm the one who dislikes rain? When was the last time you had a bath?” he chuckled before looking further into the cave with both curiosity and disdain before back to the weather outside.

“Stupid endlessly refracting headache inducing rain.” He mumbled before turning back to his partner with a sigh, It had seemed like a cool idea at the time, just bounce his reflection of a reflection and you could see for miles! And get a headache large enough that he had fallen asleep for hours afterwards…he didn’t even have a head at the time!

Pouting he nonetheless gave in to his partner’s request, it was better than doing nothing after all, even if the chances of him missing the sunrise did increase. “Fine but there had better be a new type of crystal or something”

And with that said and done he started to shape his mana until crystals began to push up out of the rock before them, different colours and shapes slipping together until they interlocked and melted into the form of a sun dragon.

Shaking himself to test its durability he nodded and took his first step deeper into the unknown.... then stopping and waiting for his partner to move ahead ... sure he couldn’t lose him but…it was nice to keep him in his sights. Nothing to do with going deeper into the cave of darkness and small shapes with stupid endlessly repeating rocks that all looked the same….

“…. Can I make a Night light?” he questioned despite the fact he’d already caused his body to start glowing in several different colours.

Galad didn't trouble himself to indulge that off hand comment only grunting in reply. He couldn't dispute it; since leaving the safety of his father's sanctuary they couldn't really afford the risk of staying still too long. Dragons were powerful, even ones his age but not invulnerable and he'd rather not risk running into something comparable.

When Tai began to manifest he watched with the same interest he always had, it was a strange unfamiliar magic he still hadn't quite got to grips with. Even after Tai attempted to explain it a couple of times, maybe some mysteries were beyond him. Mostly though he appreciated the company it provided him the only mild annoyance was the light and Galad flinched before his eyes adjusted to the new light source.

"I don't really have much of a choice do I?" He replied before proceeding cautiously down the gradual slope using the sound to guide him. It grew gradually louder echoing against the tunnel walls, and soon enough he was stood overlooking a giant aquifer.

The water expanded well past his field of view, and even Tai's light eventually succumbed to the oppressive void. The creaking sound he heard earlier came from what appeared a large set of wooden circles held together by flat panels the caught the water being collected somewhere above causing it to turn slowly.

"Never seen anything like that before, doesn't look natural though." Galad said stating the obvious. Then suddenly something else caught his eye, twinkling in the light cast by Tai large veins of platinum and gold setting the nearby walls ablaze with cracks like lightning.

No dragon was completely immune to avarice, and Galad wasn't an exception.

He lowered the intensity of his light at his partner’s grunt, as long as they were together things would be fine, they always had, yet even some emotions couldn’t be buried completely, not did he want to have anything to do with burying.

He felt his spirits pick up as the sounds of water bloomed into eh sight of the underground lake, his light bouncing off and creating a shimmering glow radiating outward from where he stood.

Giving the place a quick once over he brought his head down into the water and almost immediately began to inhale it as quickly as possible, a sigh of pure contentment radiating from his form, along with the light he was letting out.

This water…this water was amazing, the amount of minerals in it was beyond compare, beyond even that of those that ran near the cave back home, swallowing yet another large gulp he turned to his partner “all is forgiven…though maybe don’t drink the water, I’m not sure how safe it would for most creatures to drink” he paused for a moment before taking yet another gulp “Without a lot of time to get used to it” Damn this was good. He was really tempted to just jump in and drain it dry…in fact it was only the fact he had net built a reservoir that large in his mirror yet that stopped him from doing so, Galads books would get soggy, as it was he was probably going to drink as much as he could.

After a moment his partners greed pulsed and he found himself turning and his hunger struck while the minerals in the water where good, it would take some time to shift though, gold and platinum on the other hand….he hadn’t had a chance to sample much of those yet, though it did explain just why the water was so heavy.

He licked his mussel again at that and found his legs moving forward of their own accord before a thought stopped him in his tracks, fear taking control.

“What’s the chances of ripping this out will cause something to collapse on us?” he spoke, he probably could push them out with his crystals but if he was sacrificing materials for materials….

Still his hunger and his partners greed would likely win out, he just…just needed to follow his partners commands and everything would be fine….

(I'm giving you a bit of free rain here to tell him to do things to get the materials out if you want, otherwise il do something on my next post based on what you say.)

It was good to see Tai enjoying himself drinking deep from the aquifer they discovered, "That was easy." He said in an uninterested tone, the veins were too large a distraction and it took Galadaeros a long moment to respond to his companion's query.

"I uh... we should travel light." And for a moment he regained a degree of self-control turning away from the veins and looking further along. A feeling of being watched had briefly come over him but between being distracted and the dim darkness he could not see much of anything that he would consider a threat.

Failing to notice anything dangerous he returned his attention to the glittering veins, "But I do not see why we couldn't extract get a little. It might come in useful." Surrendering himself the young drake took a step forward claws clicking against the stone immediately a small pebble struck his head. Turning with a growl his eyes narrowed on a small reptilian creature that shouted at them.

"Go away, or me sorca... me sorssa... me magic you in face!" Galad then paused cocking his head in confusion. Realising what it had done the creature ducked down cowering behind the outcropping it had been using to hide.

"What did it say?" Galad asked turning to Tai wondering if he misheard.

“Hu?” he blinked as he turned to his partner looking at a small creature, frowning he directed his light towards it, the thing seemed to flinch and seem to shy even further away from them as he did so but it did mean that he was able to examine it in far more detail.
Watching the two legged reptile skitter backwards he was struck with a sudden thought “This must be one of the things that made that” he waved gesturing to the contraption of wooden planks

“It's kind of cute? Like a bigger version of those salamander things we used to chase” he grinned and made a pouching motion.

this was obviously the wrong thing to say as the creature took a step back, tripped over a rock and tumbled into the aquifer that he was previously enjoying himself with. And judging by the amount of squeaking and splashing…the thing did not know how to swim did it?

“I…don’t know whether we should help it…or laugh” he spoke sitting down next to his partner, before flowing and glancing at one of the walls of the cave, where another two of the creatures now resided, both holding a pickaxe in shaking hands. “Oh more of them” he chirped as he nugged his partner towards them, maybe they could play! Or get them to mine the stuff for them, some of the books did say servants where fun to boss about.

Galad watched with a bemused smile, the creature splashing and yipping in what couldn't have been more than 10ft of water. The shore was only a couple of meters away if that, but still it continued as if unaware of the fact.

"Saving it is beneath me." He thought out loud twisting his neck to look above. They didn't react to their friend's fall as if this was an everyday occurrence. The only thing that did happen was them skulking back as if they hadn't already been spotted. Meanwhile, their companion continued crying, if not for the scene presented to him he might have been inclined to agree on the point they had built it.

"Perhaps," He sighed and stepped aside hopping down several of the rocks. "Grab the tail." He said although when he tried the creature put up more of a fuss. Honestly, it starting to annoy him and forcibly he brushed it ashore almost immediately it tried to flee but Galad pounced on it pinning beneath his claw. "Be quite I can scarcely hear myself think." He snapped angerily a ripple of energy raising from his chest ending with a puff of smoke.

The creature went wide eyed visibly shriveled and began silently whimpering to itself. He looked back up at the pair to see they had now gone, "Bupu Bulp sorry. Please forgiveness."

He turned back to the creature, "What are you doing here?" He asked urgently. He felt much less safe with the others now out of sight, "Bupu mine bring shinies to Master."

he shared a few chuckles at his partner’s antics before turning his attention to the critters that where trying to escape, keyword being trying. They had ruined his meal after all, the least they could do was give him some entertainment while he waited.

With a grin full of teeth, he darted forwards towards the fleeing critters, his form twisting and turning until he was among them, his 6 legs easily out speeding there measly two.

“Leaving so soon?” barking out a laugh he knocked the first into the second with a flick of his tail “You’sa cat doa this!” he heard one of them yip at him before a glace paralysed the two of them, “Are you offering to be my lunch?” he had to admit there was a part of him that was really enjoying how they just dropped limp at that and start whimpering, he was probably reading to many of the darker book s in the library, but whatever Farther and galad dint know….

Ahem “Now then little snacks,” he licked his lips “what are you doing here”
Listening to them blather on however quickly got boring quickly devolving into mindless drivel as it tried to save their hides.

He lasted a minute before he felt his annoyance grow at the two called ‘lumpa’ and ‘bopsi’ before he knocked them out with intense brief flashes of light. Picking them up in his maw he carried them back towards the first and dumping them uncerimonaly at his partner’s feet ..who also seemed to have one blathering on at him about serving a great big one, oh joy.

Raising his head to the flash of light he watched Tai making his way over, carrying with him the pair that he thought escaped relieving him of prior concerns. "So that is where they got too, good work." He purred relinquishing his grip over the creature known as Bapu ever so slightly. Sensing a lapse in his attention it tried to wiggle itself free managing a little before it had his attention again.

"This master you speak of, does it have a name?" The creature looked confused shaking it's tiny head and pointing deeper into the mine, "Master do not speak to Bapu. The only Sootscale speak to Master." It explained.

Galad glanced to his partner uncertainly, "Perhaps they know of a quicker way through the pass, but knowing so little..." He drifted in thought before Bapu interfered, "Likes you. Bigger." It stretched arms wide and added, "Bapu take you to Sootscale if youz like."

"What do you think Tai?"

"I think this is the part where father would sit us down and explain the dangers of entering into the den of an unknown drake, if it is a dragon and just a bigger gecko thing"

he ignored the squawk of protest followed by fearful whimpering as his words reached the tiny things equally tiny brain.

“I mean we could go visit... but if things go wrong” he shrugged “Well then i'd rather not find a new partner” he rubbed himself to galads side as he said this for comfort.

“We could find new songs here, some exciting treasure and maybe some of those wonderful minerals but we could always find better melodies out there as well. You know me, you lead and I will follow.”

He would that much is true, Palarandusk always aired on the side of caution about exploration. Particularly after that one incident but wasn't that also what drove him to leave the sanctuary. "I need to take you outside your comfort zone every once in a while." He replied pulling his talon clear of the creature's body.

"Nothing ventured, nothing gained," Galad grumbled taking a step forward the critter on its feet stumbling forward as to avoid being crushed beneath him. "Show us the way, but stay within my sight. I do not require the light to kill you."

"Ye-Yes." The creature replied in whimper darting ahead as it stared back at the still unconscious comrades no out of concern but something else entirely.

Slowly the creature led them along the water's edge taking a scenic route that with Tai's light provided long-distance viewing of their eventual destination. An ancient bridge that connected the shoreline to a central small isle upon which the ruins of a domed temple sat, at the heart of the aquifer it served as the only source of light a muted purple tone radiating from within.

At the other side what may well have been the ruins of a small village had become a hovel overrun by the creatures where a steady flow of valuable minerals was transferred into the island with the aid of cart drawn weasel and other denizens of the tunnels. Had it been uncovered centuries prior to the village may have proven a worthy site for the gathering of tales, now it was nothing more than dirt-covered walls in contrast to the pale white of the temple.

"Master there," It pointed now at the temple across the bridge and along the bridge to the hovels, "Bapu go tell overseer yes? Arrange meeting yess?"

There was an audible hiss from Galad as if he'd been insulted, "You think me stupid? I will not sit idle while you go tell your friends to come to assault our position." He wasn't so foolish to assume this creature wouldn't betray them and swiping his claws he wrapped them around the fragile body taking to the air.

He let his grumbling flow through the link as they pressed onwards, tempered only by the brief flashes of curiosity as they travelled further into the darkness until a light emerged.

Purple and otherworldly it caught Tai of guard, purple light, that shade, it was not something he had collected before…and he felt drawn to it, like a moth to the flame…he wanted to get closer so when his partner took flight so did he, his form collapsing inwards until only a mirage remained.

It barely took moments before his partner’s claws dug into the rock of the domed temple, even as he reformed himself and then with a nod to one another the two slipped into a side entrance of the temple…and were immediately noticed by the places sole inhabitant.

The inside of the Temple was spacious, the large domed temple empty bar unlit braziers and The dragon that lay half buried in the centre.

While its back end seemingly sunk into the very ground the rest of its form was far more visible, Bones covered in metals interlaced with crystal while purple lightning pulsed across its from, dancing outwards from a core of purple light that sat within the creature’s core.

It looked at them and gigantic teeth pressed together into what would have been a smile if there was any flesh to link the gesture to something meaningful.

“A’h……Company” the older drake's voice was male, deep yet wispy and holding undercurrent of power that demanded attention.

“I trust my minions did not cause you trouble? Hard workers they are but they sometime lack a certain finesse” he chuckled before performing waving a claw, as the fire pits around them lit up, quickly warming the place up to a much environment. “It has been some time since I have company…and perhaps” he nodded once before continuing,

“You may call me, Valaxor, though it has sadly been a name that has not been used I quite some time, but interesting company is a rare treat after all…though…. perhaps…perhaps you came here because you wanted something and would be willing to perform a favour in return?”

“Wait…Valaxor? The Black Grimoire? , Author of '1001 ways to overthrow a Kingdom'? ” he blinked rummaging around in his pocket before withdrawing a book “Can I get this signed?” A much more genuine booming laugh echoed out at that.
Thats was good...Right?

Galadaeros crept inside careful not to lose his balance on the approach, but stealth was hardly a dragons strong suite and almost immediately had they drawn the attention of the temple's owner. While they couldn't be described as anything but a ruin with the illumination projected by the braziers he could already tell far greater care had been taken to maintain the structure.

Keeping a cautious distance from the drake he glanced around; the structure was intricately crafted, not built by the clumsy or uncaring but with care and purpose. There had once been a mosaic pattern to the floor, but between being partly concealed by the horde of valuable minerals and collapsing beneath the weight of the dragon the meaning of the art was forever lost to them.

"A'h company."
Galad turned with a frustrated growl a ripple of baleful blue light coursing across his body. It contested the violet glow for the briefest moment revealing the glimmer of something intriguing, a shimmering lattice towards the back of the room. He pulled his gaze away focusing instead on the larger, older drake.

Standing steady and silent for a moment he listened to what Valaxor had to say and studied him, he appeared intrigued or at the very least interested enough not to outright attack them. "Valaxor," Galad repeated issuing the name to memory, "they caused us no trouble." He said, purposefully avoiding the fact he still had one clasped in his talons.

Tai spoke next and the drakes response was grating laughter, "Certainly, but we will have time later for that. What would your name be?"

"Galad," He replied taking a cautious step back when Valaxor focused on him, or rather the one thing he wouldn't part with. "what is it you had in mind?"

"Oh no, do not misunderstand me. It is you who is offering a service, you will not find many merchants who will barter without first naming their price."

Galad mentally cursed taking a moment to gather himself before motioning towards the only thing that caught his attention, "That." He replied motioning towards the gem.
