History :
Made up of two islands Couloir and Atina are the remains of volcanic islands that have since gone extinct. But still provide plenty of nutrition to supply the inhabitants with food on land and in the water. There was at one time a third island but has sunk below the waves and became a coral reef. There is no name for the sunken island, but if there is one it may have been forgotten or the inhabitants keep it a secret until a wondering guest asks about it.

There are a couple legends surrounding these two islands. The first being that the two islands were once one created by two dieties the one known as Agräthina also called "The Mother" or "The Caregiver" resided on the island Atina. While the other was called Kindralth a fiery diety that is told to be "The Protector and Punisher". He was given the role equivalent to a father like being. Both were told to have both the form of a human and a dragon, Agräthina took the form of a white wyvern whom spout lightning and created storms with a single flap of her wings. While her human form was that of a gentle woman with flowing white hair that sparkled in the sunlight. Her skin fair and her eyes as blue as the deepest ocean. Kindralth too had the form of a mountain dragon that spout fire and with a single move would cause volcanoes to erupt. His human form was that of a man whom had black locks of hair. His skin a bit more tan than that of Agräthina and his eyes a fiery orange.

At first the two dieties didn't get along. Always destroying each others work. For centuries this will happen. Until one day they saw what can happen if they combined their powers. The evidence being a shallow island that became a reef that will surround the Archipelago. Seeing that despite their differences there can be peace.

With their abilities the two dieties created the first island. Kindralth used his to create the island and made the ground fertile and rich for all who will dwell on the island. With her abilities Agräthina created huge storms that swept in seeds of vegetation from far away lands to the island as well as bringing sea life to inhabit the waters and coral reef surrounding the island. Everything was finally ready for inhabitants to come to the island, and came they did. First animals came to the island then people, people that the two charished. With everything finished the two deities settled down and watched their hard work produce results they had hoped for.

It was then said that other dieties became jealous of Agräthina's and Kindralth's work and tried to take it for themselves. Shown in catastrophic volcanic eruptions and violent storms that ripped the mountains until they were bare. During one of the battles against another deity Agräthina was killed. Enraged Kindralth caused the largest eruption the world has seen. The eruption was so vast that it almost ripped the island into two, and most of the island sunk below the waves. This violent response to his wife's death was what will bring the clash between the dieties to an end. Out of pity and shame Kindralth repaired the island. Though it will never be the same it was enough to take care of the people he and Agräthina cherished. With the work done, Kindralth built a second island just offshore from the main island. There Kindralth and Agräthina will lay for the rest of eternity. The two islands will be named Couloir and Atina by the locals, Couloir will be the island that will be home to the locals to live on as the two deities wanted while Atina will be the location of marriages and honeymoons to honor the two deities love for each other.

The second legend that surrounds the islands is the story of the unnamed magi that was the first to transform into a dragon. During the time of the Unnamed Magi the people were mostly tribal taking only what they needed from the land and their homes were rather primative. They were peaceful people who kept to themselves. At some point tribal people from another island discovered the Gemiralth Isles. Seeing it as a place ripe with things to be taken, people to become slaves and goods, the tribal leader started leading raids against the people of Gemiralth. Each time the people will try to fight back, coming up with new tactics to fight the invaders. But the better armed invaders always came out on top; even their magic was better.

After watching those closest to him being either killed, taken away or losing what little possessions they had. The Unnamed Magi went deep into The Chasm or also called The Rift. He journeyed through the ravine until he reached the heart of Couloir. There the Magi worked tirelessly to find a way to fight off the invaders that are taking all that they have and piece by piece destroying their way of life. The Unnamed Magi said that at one point he collapsed from exhaustion. That was when Kindralth appeared to him in a form of a dragon and told the Magi how he too can take the form of a mighty dragon. Armed with the new knowledge of a possibly new spell the Magi worked until he got the new spell right.

Before the invaders came back to the island he instructed all of the inhabitants to go into the ravine. Only he will remain out for the invaders to see as they came onto the island. When they were close enough the Magi chanted the spell and his body changed to a mighty fire breathing dragon. The invader's weapons were strong but they were not strong enough to pierce the dragon hide. Bit by bit the Magi took down the invaders until there was only a small handful left, whom made it to their boat and left. Never to be seen again.

With the inhabitants now safe and their way of life saved. The Unnamed Magi was regarded as a hero by the villagers. But taking the form proved to have been too much for the Magi. When they were all busy repairing their homes the Magi slipped back to the very spot where he learned the spell. It was said before he passed away that he inscribed how to do the very spell that he used to protect his home. Hiding it away so only the most desperate to learn it can find it, a way to make sure no one can abuse the power.

It ia also said that when some villagers found the Magi's body that they built a tomb for him at the heart of the island. But didn't find the inscription. They had nothing to worry about because the invaders will never come back.

Whether this is a true story is never clear. As it has been one hundred and fifty years or so since the event and the story told so much that some may be false. It is unclear which parts of the Unnamed Magi legend is true.

Either way as time went on the villagers repaired their homes as well as their way of life. Couloir became the island where the inhabitants lived out their lives, their homes built with materials available on the island. Some building their hokes into the hills. Their way of life changed as time progressed, though they still maintained some of their hunter and gatherer ways they also learned how to tame some animals that inhabit the islands as well as how to grow crops.

Atina was reserved as a special sacred place. As that was where it is said that the two dieties are resting for eternity. Those who are getting married go to the island for the ceremony and spend three nights in the caldera living in one of the shacks that was built. There they will seal their marriage.

Up until thirty some years ago. The Gemiralth Ilses were unknown to the rest of the world until one day a volcano erupted so violently that the blast was heard for hundreds of miles away and giant waves were sent in all directions. Of course Gemiralth took the worst of the hit their booming population being taken down from a little over three thousand down to around where it is presently at of four hundred. The population still has not been able to recover. The eruption was so violent that the island surrounding what is now called Peeking Peak was blown apart until it was nothing but a low lying reef. It even split what is now called Bromrock from the rest of Couloir. However thanks to the eruption Gemiralth was discovered and its economy able to recover thanks to having new provinces to commence trade with. It will only be a matter of time before it will be determined that the town and citizens will be recovered from the event.

With the coming of the second Myst surge. The citizens of the islands found their island had been pushed east. Putting the island chain directly south of Cathwa and Lantheri Wilds. Opening up the possibilities of opening trade relations with the two provinces. A few days after the surge the island experienced a strange event this being the plant and animal life completely recovering when a relatively minor eruption of Peeking Peak followed the surge. While life had indeed rebounded the civilians are still keen on protecting the plant and animal lives on the island.

Politics / Government:
It was said that at one time the islands were once a monarchy. But when the last king went mad the people revolted and killed the mad King. A Parliamentary Republic was put in place with one man being elected by the people to be Lord Protector. The position is only temporary though with the man who is elected to be allowed to hold the position for a maximum of ten years, after the ten years a new person is elected. It used to be at one point that high status men were elected to a seat in the parliament. Something that the people are still trying to continue. With the population being as low as it is it has become custom that everyone has a voice in the decision making, both men and women, have a say. This is done through a vote and is the over all deciding factor. If the vote leans towards no on something then the decision in regards to the parliament and Lord Protector will lean towards no as well.

Crime on the islands is something that the locals do not take lightly. A person who is caught stealing is sent to the Chasm Mine to do hard labor for whatever duration is seen fit. Anyone who is caught poaching are put in prison and a heavy fine placed on him or her. If a person commits murder is put to death. Outsiders who do not obey their laws may face similar punishments or expelled from the islands and not allowed back to the islands for a duration of time. In some cases never welcomed back.

Minor eruption of Peeking Peak during the second Myst surge

Points of Interest:
Couloir:
This is the main island where the locals reside. Outsiders are expected to return to this island from Atina by sunset or on their way. The homes are either built above ground or into hills. The homes above ground have thatched roofs.

Keamanan: The main and only town of the three islands. This is where what remains of the population is located. The town is small only containing the markets one tavern and two hotels. Those few are the only things built above the ground. Visitors will find that the people do not build their houses above the ground but in the hills that dot the island. Outsiders may question this but with there not being much space to build above ground the inhabitants of the island decided to build into the hills.

The Chasm: A great rift that tears through roughly eighty percent of the island. The rift begins to the town's northeast and north through the rest of the island, creating part of a feature the locals call The Passage. It is a very deep rift through which a fast moving white capped river flows through.

Chasm Mine: This is the only mine found on the three islands, that extends deep into a extinct volcano referred to as Sleeping Peak. It produces an array of materials from volcanic rock that can be grounded down to precious fertilizer for farms to a gemstone locals call Dragonfire Diamonds.

Biasa Naga: Located at the northern most point of The Chasm. It was one time the location of a massive volcano that erupted that was responsible for the creation of The Chasm and is also the location that is rumored to be the location of where the Dragonic transformation Spell originates from on the island. Travelers must travel through The Chasm to reach this valley if they wish to learn the Spell. Taking the easy way, the means through the passage is frowned upon as it is believed that travelling through the Chasm prepares the Magi for learning the Spell.

Atina:
Regarded as the most sacred of the two islands due to the belief the two dieties reside here. There is a shrine to claim as such. This island is the location where locals get married and spend their honeymoon. Outsiders are expected to leave the island by sunset so newly weds can have time alone. There are locals who stay on the island to make sure outsiders do leave.

Mengikat: The 'village' where locals or outsiders if allowed get married at. It mainly consists of the temple and a feasting hall. Guests are not always permitted to attend the weddings that take place. There are some locals from thebmain island who reside here to make sure outsiders leave by sunset as well as to maintain the huts located in the forest.

The Tunnel: The newly married couple, or visiting outsiders pass through to get to Paradise Forest. If there is a newly married couple, outsiders are prohibited from passing through the tunnel until the newly weds have done so.

Paradise Forest: This is where the newly weds spend their honeymoon at for three days. It is a lush, tropical forest. It is said that the two dieties are at rest here. Nights are so clear that millions of stars can be seen each night. This is located in the caldera at the south end of the island. Newly weds stay in one of the huts built in the forest. Guests are expected to leave before sunset for the main island.

Sparkling Falls: The only waterfall on the island located in the middle of the forest. The falls are fed by rainstorms that frequent the island and a lake located at the top of the extinct, small volcanic cone. The water is crystal clear and appears to sparkle during the day and night.

Bromrock:
Savage Peak: An active, but dormant volcano. Savage Peak has had a number of minor eruptions in the past. But the locals know it is capable of a much more devastating one. Which has locals worried.

Castle Ruins: At one time the ruins was a beautiful castle constructed with the granite from the Chasm Mine. The massive eruption of Peeking Peak and Tsunami that followed completely leveled the castle and the town that was located nearby.

Bromrock Bay: Bromrock Bay was created by the Tsunami that occurred. It has completely severed Bromrock away from Couloir. The landscape underneath is still shifting so it is not quite yet a chosen fishing spot by locals just yet.

Excelsa Cantata
The ring low lying island that surrounds Couloir and Atina. At high tide is the only time that ships can pass through without having to use The Passage. It is covered in stunning corals with some patches of seagrass that grows as far as the eye can see.

The Dropoff: Where the shallow reef suddenly drops straight down. It is the best place for visitors to watch for deep ocean creatures that frequently visit the islands.

Grassy Plains: Located to the North of the Islands. It is a grassy, sandy location that is full of seagrass. It is the best location to fish or go for a swim.

The Passage: The only location in the reef where ships can pass through without having to wait until high tide. It is only big enough for ships to pass through one at a time. At one time it was big enough for three or four at a time but due to coral growth it has narrowed.

Scorpion's Tail: A one time low lying island that barely sat above the water. It was a popular destination for locals to go to relax. But after the eruption of Peeking Peak the island is nothing more than a broken up reef that adds to the tricky navigation of the water surrounding the islands.

Peeking Peak: Before Peeking Peak blasted it's way out of the ocean there was another volcanic island that was in its place. It was a perfectly shaped volcano that sat in the heart of a lush forested island. That was until the volcano erupted so violently that it tore the island apart and collapsed into the ocean creating monstrous waves. How some of the locals managed to survive is a mystery to outsiders though the locals say that they survived by going into the Chasm and sheltering there until the waves passed. Some years after the event Peeking Peak blasted it's way out of the ocean, building itself up until it was five thousand feet above the waves then going dormant. This mountain is credited for other provinces finally realizing the island chain is there. A few days after the second surge Peeking Peak experienced a relatively minor eruption fertilizing the islands with its ash. This with the combination of the lingering affects of the surge helped plant and animal life completely recover.

Broken Bones Reef: A chain of low lying reefs built up by sunken ships and natural processes. This area is a popular fishing spot to the locals and swimmers who do not want to be beaten up by the rough waves that often crash against the outer ring of the island chain.

This looks good; it extrapolates on culture and adds flavor and depth to an area of the world. Are these islands to be part of the archipelago in the center of Rhiaden's map, or off the western coast of the Venisian continent?

I am glad that you like it. I was thinking that it could either be off the western coast of the Venisian continent or someplace else so that it is kind of a mysterious place that is not well known by the Old Empire, with maybe very few visitors coming from the islands.

Kind of like how far away kingdoms were during the ancient times for us. Not sure if that makes sense but that was kind of the idea I had for this place when I was putting it together.

Sounds good! Specify that under "location" and we'll move this to the approved lore.

The Chasm: The Chasm is located on the North of Keamanan. It is a deep ravine that tears through roughly eighty percent of the island carved out during a massive eruption. At the heart is where it is rumored the Unnamed Magi was the first to learn the Dragonic Transformation Spell.

Biasa Naga: Located at the heart of The Chasm. Biasa Naga is where the Unnamed Magi is said to have learned the Dragonic Transformation Spell as well as have been buried at.
Can you edit these two sentences. It reads really weird; I had to read it six or so times to figure out you're saying the heart of the chasm was Biasa Naga. It's just a personal preference on my part but will also help others who might read this later. I would either take out the second sentence in the Chasm altogether, or tweak the way the second one reads in Biasa Naga so they aren't saying the same thing. I appreciate the edit.

Otherwise, APPROVED!
