Noria/House Hael's Estate

Noria was a nice place. Beautiful coast, booming economy and a place for everyone. Of all the provinces, Noria was one that the Jarl of Kriege rather enjoyed visiting. He trotted through the busy streets of the city atop his shire horse along with his unit of 6 heavily armoured horsemen to guard him. He had his usual traveling gear with a simple shirt and pants, topped off with a gambeson jacket and chainmail tunic with his ornate antler-hilt dagger and the infamous sword of Kriege on his belt around his hips. Coupled with his enormous horse, imposing figure and very intimidating units flanking him his presence carried weight. Several people made sure to get out of his way, noble and commoner alike.

He had sent word long before to the head of House Hael, one of the families in charge of Noria that he was quite familiar with and the first on his list for his grand plan. Now he was in the city and a couple hundred meters from their estate. He stopped by their entrance and gave his identity. Things seemed a little tense around the estate. Of course the Jarl hadn't heard of the attempt on the young lord's life a week or two ago. They opened the gates and he rode his enormous horse to the entrance, letting the stable boy lead his horse and the horses of his men to the stable. Making sure his outfit was presentable he entered the estate, his left hand resting on the golden pommel of his ancient sword.

His tall figure strode through the lobby, until he came to a halt and awaited the lord of the estate or one of his representatives to come meet him. As he waited he looked around, enjoying the peaceful sounds around the estate and the distant echo of the city's goings-on.

Click. Click. Click.

Silas' cane tapped quietly on the polished manor floor as he entered the main foyer of his home. He was surrounded by several heavily armored guards and had his own sword hanging from his hip.

His leg would take time to recover, but the world didn't stop just because he had bee injured. Besides, he has far from helpless. With each hardship his magic seemed to grow somewhat, now aided by the amulet that had been gifted to him. The simple yet ornate necklace hanging around his neck, its red jewel warm against his skin.

He made eye contact and smiled at the older man as he entered. He had heard of the leader of Kriege before but had never had any dealings with their province. "Lord Kriege its a pleasure," he said welcomely as he tipped his head slightly in respect. "I pray your trip was uneventful?" he asked casually.

Heinrich looked over to Silas, but he was rather confused by the fact that he was walking with a cane...and limping. Silas gave a nod and Heinrich returned it with a nod of his own. "Lord Hael, a pleasure to meet you. I had heard of your father's tragedy, you have my sympathies. I've had my run-ins with him in the past, he was a good man." he said politely.

Silas' comment was returned with a small smile. "Unfortunately, yes. For the most part at least...Pardon me, lord Hael, but is an armed guard necessary? I can promise you that looking like I'm ready to kill a man is simply my natural appearance. I'm not here to attack you, I can promise you that." he reassured with a chuckle, eyeing the troop of guards surrounding Silas. Usually being escorted by an armed guard wasn't a good thing at all. It was making him slightly nervous, reflected by him resting his left hand on the golden pommel of the ornate longsword underneath it.

"Is there a place where we can talk in private?" he asked politely, preferring to get down to business as soon as he can.

A smile crept across his face. It had seemed like a lifetime ago since his Father had been killed, even if it had only been a little over a year. "I thank you for your kind words. My Father spoke well of you and your home," he said as he continued to listen to the man.

"My apologies, I didn't mean to offend. I assure it is not you who I distrust," he said standing up straighter. He didn't like the small collection of guards either. It made him feel like a helpless child, even in his injured state, Silas was a still a deadly warrior but there was little to do to put his sisters at ease. "Times have been..." he said pausing to think of the right word "...exciting as of late and never hurts to have a few extra swords around," he said with a small smile.

"Absolutely. We may talk in my study," he said gesturing down the hall. "Can I have anything brought for you, Lord Kriege?" he asked politely as they made their way down the hall before Silas stepped into the study. He waved the guards off, who would stand by outside the door. They moved passed the large table with maps and sea charts, the lifeblood of his house's income before coming to a large desk.

Silas lowered himself down into his chair behind the desk and pointed gestured for Lord Kriege to do the same on the opposite side. "Now, what is it that you wished to speak of?" he asked.

Silas led him to his personal study and shortly after asked for refreshments. "A glass of water would be much appreciated, lord Hael. And the same for my men as well, if it's not too much trouble." he answered, making sure to remember that his men weren't all as hardy as he was. They wanted to follow but he waved them off, ordering them to relax. The image they and Silas' guards created was somewhat amusing. Two groups of guards all clad in heavy armour simply staring at each other. Hopefully it doesn't get too awkward.

They entered the study and Silas motioned for him to have a seat. He thanked the man and slumped into the seat with a bit of a grunt. He eyed Silas as he also lowered himself into his seat with a bit of difficulty as well. "You sound about as bad as I do." he quipped with a smirk.

Silas moved on to business and Heinrich's posture shifted. He sat upright in his seat and rested his hands on the arm rests of the chair. "Well to be blunt, I want to form an alliance with Noria for what's to come and I figured I could start with the two strongest Houses. You and House Varn...but a mutual friend of ours has brought it under my attention that they can be a little...untrustworthy when it comes to business." he kicked right off with a professional tone and got right to the juicy part of the negotiation.

"I'm preparing for expansion. My borders are becoming stifling and with all the business flowing through Kriege I need to expand. But an expansion like that might not go down so peacefully, especially given our relationships with our surrounding provinces. I want to broker an alliance with you for not only an exchange of goods and services, but for us to aid each other should the season unending come rolling in. Given my relationship with your House and your reputation, I thought it would be wise to come to you first."

He let out a chuckle at the remark. For a man so young, Silas moved like someone who was easily 30 years older. His leg was slow to heal, no doubt due to crude methods he had used to close the fatal wound after he had been attacked. Silas was no healer and fire not been a kind doctor to him.

He listened as the northerner explain the reason for the meeting. He bristled slightly at the mere mention of House Varn. Things were boiling over in Noria; soon there would either be House Hael or House Varn. Silas feared for the city when that conflict finally arrived. He didn't add anything to the conversation, only occasionally nodding as Heinrich continued to speak.

As he finished, Silas sat forward slightly. Noria had always been a neutral place, a place of commerce, but maybe those days were numbered. Conflict was bubbling up in more places than just Noria, all over lines were being drawn, subtle lines. "Who do you expect issues from?" he asked out of curiosity. He only knew surface-level knowledge of the political state of the North, his focus having been required home since he had assumed control of his House. The obvious question would be how the Empire would handle such an expansion. These types of dominoes were the ones that could throw the entire continent into war if they began falling.

"I am certainly open to trade deals between our houses. I would need to know more of your intentions before committing anything more. Also, regardless of what any of the other houses may say, any type of military alliance would need permission from the entire council." he said meeting the man's eyes.

Of course, that was assuming there was a council after everything. It certainly wasn't Silas' intentions to seize control of the province, but a struggle may be all be inevitable at this point.

Heinrich eyed him for a second or so before talking. "To be blunt...Leore and Ironmere. Riverkeep is tough, but I can handle them. I have my fears that Leore will see my advancement as a threat to their province, same with Ironmere. Now my army's big but not big enough to take on two provinces of that size at the same time...especially if Leore asks for a favour from their newfound friends in the Empire." he explained truthfully. Silas didn't strike him as a liar or backstabber. Plus having his troops there when everything goes south will be a boon.

Silas was open for trade, but his question about the Jarl's intentions struck him as odd. That second part was also not very encouraging. "My intentions is to make my people happy. Our borders are getting a little tight around the waist and conducting trade with Noria will bring in not only the resources to sustain this expansion but it will be a boon for our economy. We are, after all, a trading hub. And our supply of fish and other resources have been dismal to say the least." he explained. A smirk appeared faintly. "And I've heard Noria's quality of drinks are quite an experience." he said with a shrug, trying to work some terrible humour in.

"As for military expansion, I'm not expecting you to send troops to fight my battles for me. I just want the reassurance that you'll be there if the time comes. And thus far I was under the impression that the other lords of Noria don't even come close to your House's power." the smile faded as he got serious once again. "And I might not be familiar with the conflict between your Houses, but I don't think dealing with them first will be in the benefit for both our provinces." he decided to push his luck. He had heard only rumours about them, but from personal experience he wasn't a fan of House Varn. They're a last resort.

"Of course if you are in need of assistance, my people and I will be there right beside you if you get in trouble through this whole mess." he reassured Silas. So far it sounded as if he would give nothing in return, but that's not the Kriege way. Anything he asked he would offer back.

He looked on as Kriege explained those who he thought he might have trouble with. There was no love lost between Silas and Tybalt of Leore. Any man who could kill his own brother for power was a disgrace in SIlas' mind, though he cared for Lillith. His hesitation did not only come from his loyalties but also what all was involved if war broke out.

"I don't think I have to mention this, but I will. A war with Leore may very well involve fighting the legions as well," he said, meeting the man's eyes. The Imperial army stayed out of the affairs of the provinces for the most part, but they would certainly march northward at the first sign of something resembling a rebellion. "The lady of Leore being the daughter of the Emperor almost guarantees it," he said, look of concern still on his face.

He thought for a moment. It could be an opportunity to secure more independence for Noria who had long been chaffed under Imperial rule but to potentially dedicate his relatively small army so far away would be disastrous if Varn was left in the picture. He let out a breath. "I agree to opening trade up between our two territories and can commit to that immediately. The Norian armies aren't much use to anyone unless they are united under one house instead of the five they are currently. Things here need to be settled before I can commit to such a thing as military aid." he said with a serious face.

Silas was a man of his word, he wouldn't promise his soldiers if he had no intention of sending them should they be called on.

Silas reminded Heinrich of the dangers of messing with Leore and the Jarl gave a nod. "Oh, trust me. I know. The last thing I need now is to be swarmed by the legion. And like you said, the Emperor's daughter is there...and with child from what I hear. Provoking them will be a problem I don't want to deal with. I hope to negotiate with them to make sure they don't view my expansion as a provocation. But if it happens that they march up there and attack, I hope you understand that I won't be able to back down." he explained to the young lord. The Empire was a beast he didn't want to wake. Not yet, at least. But hw was sure that if they were to march, the won't be marching their whole army up. Plus at that point enveloping them would seem like a good possibility...hopefully all this planning wouldn't be necessary.

Silas agreed to trade, but he explained that he couldn't use his army effectively without the help of the other Houses. Heinrich eyed him for a few seconds, thinking. "If you need help to take control of the province, I can have 4000 troops on your doorstep in a fortnight. A week with a forced march and even more if needed. All you have to do is give the word." he said flatly and calmly as he dropped one hell of a bombshell on the boy.

He stared hard at the man. The possibility of actually going to war with the Empire seemed absurd to him. Even if that was something Silas was at all interested in, they would need more than just the two of them.

His expression grew harder when the man offered a sizeable amount of troops. With those soldiers and the ones already at his command, it would be possible to take the city by force but is that what he wanted? His issues weren't with the city, they were with one Lord. Would Silas be able to sacrifice Norian lives to settle those issues? Did he have a choice at this point?

No. He had to try to take out Varn as peaceably as possible. It was possible to the rest of the houses would fall into line afterward. A million possibilities ran through his head. He tried to trace down down each of their possible outcomes. He needed friends. He had asked Lillith for help, but it was obvious that any sort of friendship between his house and Leore would be impossible at this point.

"Deal. I'll accept your offer of troops and in return, we will help defend against attacks from the surrounding provinces," he said. It was the best he could offer currently. Varn would promise this man the world for his assistance, but Silas was a man of his word and would only offer what was available. "Once things are settled here, it would become more clear what exactly I have to offer," he commented.

Heinrich gave a smile when Silas agreed. Defending against other provinces were more than enough for now. "Of course. And thank you, my lord. Both our beautiful provinces will benefit from this alliance." he said politely and slowly rose from his seat. He held his right hand out for the man to shake as his left rested on the gilded pommel of his longsword.

Once Silas shook his hand he would look to the door then to the young lord again. "Exciting times are awaiting us." he said with a smirk.
