Wind swept across the Rhisokan heartland, plains of wheat fields wafted in the springtime air back and forth as the clouds overhead rumbled gently in the distance. Anara could feel the pressure change in the nape of her neck, knowing their would be rain in a few hours as the dark clouds blew in from the south. The air carried the scent of the jungles of Myr, faintly, but all the same, so she knew it would be heavy but hopefully not so dangerous with thunder or lightning. From the sound her ears could pick up there was not so much thunder as she strode along.

Aldritch felt it too, whinnying beside her and clacking his teeth together. “Aye,” she murmured as the white-maned girl continued along the road, her long sword and bow across her back. The Courser’s saddle carried her pack and a long spear with a crossguard at the bottom of the broad blade and a few simple pelts were rolled up and tied to her saddle bags. Nothing as exotic as she would have liked, just a deer and a few rabbits she had caught while travelling.

Her bright eyes searched the horizon, spying her destination not but a hilltop away where the small Imperial town awaited. Despite being nearby, it was a very small town, lacking even the usual palisade the Imperial Legion preferred to construct around its villages and hamlets. Such left it open to attack, but given that she could see most of the buildings even as she approached, it mattered little in the grand scheme of the Old Empire. A few peasants here and there did not make it into their headlines or rumors. Most of the guards in the town were either retirees or slaves, though some of that stock looked rather well built to her blue eyes.

She scented the air carefully as she entered the town, eyes searching for the tavern the contract had indicated for her to meet the benefactor at. Something needed killing, and someone wanted protecting while they walked. Anara had never escorted a person before, and had some reservations about the matter, mainly if she accidentally got them killed would she be in trouble for it?

More she needed to form a simple, but friendly bond with whomever she’d be venturing off in the wilderness with just in case a situation arose where she needed to call upon her beastblood.

The girl shook the thought from her head, spying the tavern as she walked past what she guessed was a former gladiator standing guard in the town square, covered in scars across his arms and shoulders, but his muscles indicated he was no longer in his prime. Anara detested slavery, however she did have a fascination with the art of gladiator combat in some odd irony. She found herself watching him, looking back to see if his hands bore all ten fingers and if he was stunted or crippled from his time in the arena. Distracted, Anara bumped into the door frame of the small tavern as she entered, knocking her head painfully. She twisted and rolled into the room, waving at Aldritch to stay outside while she regained her bearings.

Στιγμιότυπο-οθόνης-(781).pngIt hadn't been long while Ezitli was waiting. She had arrived on horseback, and being part of a noble family furnished her with the strongest of steeds. Velvet covered her form, dark hood over her head while she sipped on the wine she had just ordered. They had delivered it in a mug, but what more could she expect in a tavern? The luxury of glasses was for the capital, in the royal halls and in any house of a respectable noble.

Upon hearing the wooden door open her eyes averted, violet gaze meeting the blond woman who had entered. She took a moment to study her, note the bright hair and her posture just to be sure that this was the woman she was looking for. She raised her hand to grab her attention, leaving her mug on the table as she leaned back against her chair. Finally.
⠀ ❛❛I suspect you came as fast as you possibly could. ⠀ ❜❜

oice clear and steady as she gently pulled down her hood, loose black curls framing her face. She nodded towards the chair opposite of her for the woman to sit. Anara, was her name. As Ezitli had been informed. Until their mission would be complete, they were official on Imperial business.
⠀ ❛❛I doubt you're familiar with who I am. My name is Ezitli, I am a magi. I work for the Emperor.❜❜

A
nd soon enough, she'd take her mother's place in the council.
She gently pushed her mug forward; the woman could drink from it if she pleased. The magi imagined that the woman had done worse things than share a cup with somebody. After all wine shouldn't go to waste, as cheap as it was.
⠀ ❛❛We have several matters at hand to discuss before we set off. Your reward would be a fine beginning, I believe.❜❜

A young brunette woman beckoned Anara as she entered, the white-maned girl rubbing her chin gingerly after she had walked into the door frame upon entering, nodding acknowledgement and approaching the beautiful benefactor. The tavern was like every other one the young huntress had been in, admittedly that wasn’t very many, however the scent of perfume was clear on the woman indicating she was of wealthier stock than anyone Anara had dealt with in her life.

Oh, an Imperial Magi,” Anara said with an expression of understanding, looking at a wooden chair that the woman motioned towards. She let herself slide into it, pulling her scabbard and quiver off her back to sit propped up on the floor beside her rather than hang off her back awkwardly. “You are right, I’ve not heard of you before, but I don't pay attention to people until I meet them.” The girl said, not intending insult but not aware if it was or not either. A mug was offered to her, and carefully Anara sniffed it, smelling the fermented grapes within before accepting the mug and tasting the wine.

She swallowed the drink while listening to the woman politely. “Yes, depends on what is being killed and how many though. Sometimes a few denarii, sometimes a bunch of aurei. Oh, and I don't kill innocents if that matters.” Though she had no concerns about people in general, as in her experience most people were hardly innocent. Anara smiled warmly, remembering the names of the various Imperial coins she had learned rather recently with practiced ease, pleased with herself for having done so. Reciting them nightly on the road helped, as did learning the Emperor’s name, as she had not heard the Imperator’s actual name until the last few weeks. Everyone just said ‘the Emperor’ and others acted like they knew exactly who was being referred to and no one in the room was a wild girl who was raised largely on her own.

Let’s talk about the beasts and what you actually need me to do and when. I may need some supplies depending on the creature.” In her mind she was committing the scent of the woman to memory, repeating in her head ‘friend not prey’ in the hopes if her beastform appeared her wolf-side would remember it as well, as it was much harder to control her animalistic nature when in the form of the lycanthrope. Even in her human form she discovered she had bestial behaviors from time to time.

he had attempted to foresee whatever was awaiting for them, but to no result. Her crystal proved yet again unhelpful, and she was starting to believe that the damn thing was simply not working. That, or perhaps she wasn't as strong as she needed to be yet. . . Although How could she have seen that if the crystal had lost its power? No, no. She must be doing something wrong.
⠀ ❛❛Though I do know enough of our destination. Perhaps that could tell us what awaits ahead. ❜❜

It wouldn't be possible to find a creature of the deserts where they were headed to go. Her sources promised something truly invaluable. A substance, growing inside all vegetation of a cave far from the Empire's capital, where nature run wild and the myst run deep. It was said to offer solution to many things, ingredient to elixirs and curing potions Tool for future telling. Some claimed it a drug of myths. Ezitli had decided to see for herself. It would mean a sharp turn for matters of the Empire. A fine sharp turn.
⠀ ❛❛ I am on the look for something A plant, in short words. I hear its in abundance inside a cave. Far from the capital, quite far from any town really. An untouched forest.❜❜

The violet eyed woman folded her arms on top of the table, somewhat leaned over. Her eyes observed her new companion, single eyebrow just barely raised in question. There was something about Anara that she couldn't quite tap on. She wasn't sure what it was, but she was bound to find out. Or at least, she hoped to. She had an non ending appetite for secrets. And an enormous curiosity.
⠀ ❛❛As you understand, nothing is certain. Of course, we may not face any trouble either. It is all very Tangible. You should be prepared for any possible scenario, though naturally I could provide us with some sense of protection should the need arise. ⠀ ❜❜

Anara pursed her lips, musing on the brunette’s mission. In truth, Anara liked the idea of walking in blind, it would help hone her skills and provide her with some sense of the unknown, allowing her to use what skills she had to determine the danger the two would be facing. Sometimes a challenging hunt made the predator feel most alive. Only sometimes though.

I see.” She responded as the magi detailed their goal and some of where they would be going. “Well, then we can discuss payment after the mission is complete. Until then, I suppose someone important enough to work alongside the Imperial Court can finance the expedition.” Free food and supplies was what Anara was hinting at, not only could her own belly be filled, but Aldritch needed oats and hay as well.

I can prepare enough with some simple concoctions and oils for some common beasties.” Though they may not come in handy, the white-maned girl preferred to have something rather than nothing. Some simple oils and concoctions that worked well on undead, spirits, and some poison for her blade on the chance they encountered other excursions to this cave that were not willing to share the spoils with the two women.

I suppose we can leave with the dawn on the morrow, gives me some time to gather a few supplies and rest in a bed before leaving. How long is the journey might I ask? Not that I mind a long ride with good company.

zitli had made sure that they'd have all they needed. Sure she had invested in some general things, like food and blankets but anything Anara asked for they wouldn't have a problem getting.

aying a bit extra coin sounded far preferable to ending up dead. Least they could do was take any necessary measures. Without another word the magi stood at her feet, carefully pulling her hood over her head once more.

he offer a nod at the white haired woman before leaving two coins on the table, enough to suffice for the drink and the occupation of the table. Violet orbs raised and focused on the woman, looking her in the eye. Ezitli was not the one to shy away from people's gazes; if anything, they were the doors to one's proper thoughts and intentions.
Coral lips stretched into a grin, teasing but hardly hostile.
⠀ ❛❛As for tonight I've rented a room for us. There's an inn beyond the central well. I'm afraid we will need to share it, if that's no trouble. We shall speak in the morning, Anara.❜❜

Sounds good, I’ll see about getting some things done in the meantime.” Brewing simple concoctions didn’t take all that long once one had the right herbs and substances, although one still had to be careful in order to ensure they maintained their usefulness.

I usually travel fairly light, so hopefully you can manage roughing it through the wild country for a few nights. Get a good bath tonight, and fill up on wine and good food to your heart’s desire.” She smiled warmly at her companion as the violet eyed woman stood and made ready to take her leave, her tone meant to offer advice rather than insinuate anything negative about the noblewoman’s ability to survive. A pack animal, both their horses and that should suffice for the pair of them, at least by Anara’s reckoning. She had heard tales of rich women travelling with caravans worth of luggage and finery, but did not believe such embellished stories applied to Ezitli as the woman was without a troop of guards or servants anyway.

By the huntress’s eyes the woman wouldn’t be too uncomfortable without the luxury of civilization, after all she wanted to take this journey. Anara spent most of her time away from settlements, camping out alone with nothing but the forest canopy overhead, and so had grown accustomed to it over time. Sleeping in a nice warm bed and having a nice bath helped ease the muscles every once in a while, but eventually being cooped up inside a town made her anxious, itching to get back out in the wilds where she could be free.

Oh, no problem at all Ezitli. I could do worse, and you don't strike me as a snorer.” She responded, her voice soft and mellow and posture very relaxed as she joked with the brunette. “After all, we’ll be sharing a tent soon enough, what difference does canvas or thatch overhead make in the end?

I’ll see you tonight sometime.
