Sleep, dream, wake up.

This was new to her, like dreaming for eons and waking up to find out everything you've lived up to the moment you fell asleep was real. It had been almost surreal everything that had happened to her.

From one cave city to another, she had changed in ways she could never imagine. Still, dreams can be both peaceful as they can be haunting. Just a few days prior, Tyime had shared a kiss with her in the climax of their encounter. He tasted of recently burnt ashes, a little bit of steak too that day. It brought many smiles on her at the end of the day when she finally had a small room to stay in and sleep.

There were only good dreams after that.

But then reality shook her up, the nightmares of what had happened in Molosva, the wrong-doings of its Chieftain, the loss of her family. It all flashed back, sometimes more vividly than she wanted them to be. Just like then, she woke up today a little too early for her own comfort to escape from her dreams and headed down to the tavern side for a drink.

It was different from her inn, a lot more modernized from the inside, even the drinks were filled of languages she couldn't even begin to understand. Regardless, alcohol is alcohol, and despite her physical appearance changing, she was still a dwarf at heart.

She poured a drink, bitter but welcomed and then looked at herself in the reflection of the cup. Her skin had remained of her old color as the day she first escaped her city. Her muscles had turned a lot more toned than they were then, but her body's scars were completely gone but one across her nose, like she had never fought for her life before. Her eyes were sad, her complexion that of someone who cannot be at peace entirely.

It was bizarre to relive sad, demoralizing memories yet have no physical way to prove to herself any of it had been real. If she were to open the door to the outside, would her family greet her like the always did in the mornings? If she turned around to the kitchen section of the inn, would her sister be cooking with the same smile their mother taught them to use?

Cassandra looked over to the kitchen, empty and cold, with provisions but no one to use them. She'd take a step forward, immediately regret it and turn back to her next drink, her hands shaking and her resolve shattering as yet once more she failed to face her own fears.

That all of this was real.

She hasn't come out from the inn since Tyime declared it as hers. She hasn't needed to, everything she needs to sustain herself is in this place. In this building in a foreign city.

Another drink.

The bottle was empty, the second one of the day and dawn hasn't even been announced. Cassandra looked at the bottle, then at herself through it, then quickly throwing the bottle to the wall, breaking it. She's locked herself in this inn, she has lost count how many bottles are shattered on the floor now.

It didn't stop her from taking the next bottle of alcohol just as the bell announced the dawn of day at the heart of the mountain.

A week after the invasion Tyime had grown quite nervous, Since getting Cassie back, she had been locked up inside the inn he had given her. He wanted to give her space to figure things out, he himself had laid out his heart to her and wanted to leave her to think about what he had said, but a week? he thought.

Tyime would quietly take his leave from the round table. This mornings meetings had dragged on for at least an hour and Tyime became quite weary of it, he wanted to see Cassie, to hold her. That would make things better he thought as he silently made his way towards the inn.

As Tyime made his way through the maze that was his city, he'd be greeted by numerous people, going over tasks, construction idea's, and farming. Tyime would make quick work of each person as he'd grow increasingly annoyed by this point. Being the leader, or king some would say, of an entire city was hard work.

Once he reached the inn, Tyime would softly knock on the door and let himself in. What laid before him was shocking to say the least, Cassie was there and polishing off bottle after bottle of ale, seeing as the pile of broken bottles that lay next to the far wall would be a good indicator. Tyime unfazed would slowly walk up to Cassie and pull her to him, holding her tight. Tyime would place a gentle kiss on her forehead "My love, talk to me, feel how I speak to you, and emulate it. I understand that things are hard for you, but do understand that I'll be at your side ever step of the way." He'd weave gently to Cassie.

If he knew she was like this, he wouldn't have let her stew like this for so long. Chiding himself for this fact he'd softly scoop her up and cradle her against his chest "I think a change of scenery would do you some good love." with that Tyime would step through his void, only to step out in front of the palace, a small group of miners that had been passing by would wave as they snickered to themselves, surly about the rumors that had spread since Cassie's presence had been known to the city. The new queen of Sanctuary he thought. It did have a nice ring to it he thought.

He'd shake his head and glance over, watching a small group of children playing blissfully in the city square. "See there my love, that is the reason I had this city created, to unite the people under one home, and to have somewhere peaceful for them to grow." He'd weave to Cassie.

Tyime could only hope that he would be able to help her, in any way possible. But he feared that his lack of knowledge would hinder him in his attempt.

Cassandra looked at Tyime almost with dead eyes, her entire body was screaming to fall on the floor and collapse on the debris of glass and dust. She was ready to succumb to her own depression.

To her surprise, the moment he picked her up, he was spouting gibberish, she thought and then she was gone from the tavern and back into a palace.

It felt dull as her feet landed back to reality. She had to blink multiple times to adjust to the new light, and the crowd of people hanging around the hall.

Though she wanted to see the world like Tyime did, it'd feel as though their roles had reversed. She was the one in a foreign reality while he was completely adjusted to it.

She shoved him away, clicking her teeth together multiple times as her own way of communication, wanting to express her disdain for doing such useless thing. She frowned as she emptied the bottle in multiple gulps until finally it was all finished. She turned and looked for an exit, avoiding their eyes as she stumbled down lightly.

She knew she looked awful, and probably smelled worse, but it wasn't she who chose to bring her out in this condition.

Tyime, after witnessing the display Cassie had preformed, would shake his head. It was unwise for him to bring her here in this state of mind "Sorry love, but you need to sober up, and collect your thoughts" His growling tone would softly echo off the mountain walls as he chided himself for bringing her here as he picked Cassie up yet again and left the city square. Tyime would quickly and calmly make his way to his bed chambers, as there was no reason to allow her to embarrass herself further.

"Cassie you need to wash up." He'd say flatly as he reached his bedchambers and deftly ripped away her very pungent clothes and tossing them away, while carrying her quietly to the adjoining restroom. He'd lay her down in the claw cloven tub as he started up the shower, letting the water beat down on Cassie.

"When your done, please come out, i'll have a fresh set of clothes set out for you." With that he'd leave her be for the time being. As he reentered the bedchambers he would poke his head out and call towards a nearby cleric. "Yes sir how may I help you?" Tyime would nod towards the rest room "I am in need of some clothes for her, would you be able to find something for her?" The cleric would smile and bow as she took her leave "I'll be right back sir!" With that the cleric disappeared around the corner of the hallway.

Tyime would quietly lay down on the bed, patiently waiting as Cassie washed up, he would hope that a good wash would help her out to some degree. As he laid there pondering many things, a light knock would bring him back to reality as a soft voice had spoken "Sir I have her clothes here, I'll leave them at the door." Tyime would hear the light footsteps of the cleric leaving after a time would fade into the palace as she left the door.

Tyime would sit up and walk over to the door to retrieve the bundle of clothes and gently set them at the foot of the bed, while he would quietly lay back down, and folding his arms behind his head as he relaxed a bit. Hm? this bed is quite comfortable he thought. He'd have to thank the builders for this room later that was for sure.

If only we could drown.

She had it in her mind to end it here, in the bathtub, it didn't look like a bad way to go. She was depressed, and she clearly understood the reasons why, but there was nothing to do about it. Slowly she sank fully into the water and held her breath, barely fitting in it as it was made for Tyime's size and she was a tad thicker than even a normal dwarf now.

Letting time pass, she surprised herself for how much she could hold her breath, it helped clear the alcohol away and let the hangover kick in. Not wanting to die, truly, she got off the bathtub, looking a lot more colorful than when she was first kicked out of the inn, but there was no towel.

She scoffed a bit and reminisced of her own care for her inn, where always a proper cloth would await in the bathroom of every room of her guests. Smiling, she took her body to a mirror of sorts, broken into pieces yet visible enough for her to notice her eyes once more.

Watching at her reflection, she clicked her teeth together multiple times, grunting and rolling her eyes as if understanding what the reflection responded to her back. Her eyes turned more serious, holding the mirror's sides tightly as she clicked in a more menacingly, low frequency tone.

Did he cause it? she asked.

Perhaps.

But whether that was an honest response, or it was only her own mind believing what it wanted to, she couldn't say.

Swiftly she turned her eyes away from the broken mirror, then placed her body and weight against the door, looking down on the floor as her body temperature slowly began to risen, the floor under her feet slowly sizzling, then cracking under the pressured heat.

Cassandra held her breath and calmed herself once more before turning the handle and getting out of the bathroom, seeing Tyime dozing off on his own.

Tyime would quietly yawn as he got comfy on the bed, feeling the edges of his vision pulling him slowly into a gentle sleep. He would grumble quietly "mhm, Cassie.." and with that Tyime would be pulled into slumber.

Lights flashing.
Trumpets calling.
A deep rage.
WmbIOSO.jpg
Tyimes dreams always seemed the same, when he was alone, with it looking like the void, unbridled by any realm, not forced to take shape, but to just be. He'd drift further into his subconscious, reaching closer to the void, his home.

Unlike Sanctuary, the void would always hold a special place for him, his creation had been in the void, for it is declared that he, is indeed the Son Of The World. Not the son of avsolom mind you, but of the void. Still Tyime had much to learn of himself and his power, along with the ever pulling need to absorb any and all knowledge, all the while having been pulled in another direction entirely, a much more sinister part of the void. The need to consume. He would grow restless as he reached this part of his dream, lightly tossing back and forth.

Tyime would shudder at the thought. He knew he was a monster, that fact he couldnt argue, but the thought of caring for someone else, caring for Cassie. Could he, a monster, truly care for her? this was the question that rattled Tyimes mind the most, it made him very slef aware of his actions as of late, and with that making him take each action with measured care. he didnt want a repeat of last time. No, he would never let it happen. Never again.

—What are you waiting for? He did it.

Her mouth clicked as to quiet the voice, she looked over to him, he was at peace, he seemed so calm and yet so on-guard, ready to jump into action at any moment's notice. Once more, she clicked her teeth to reply to the voice.

—I know him. I trust him.

It didn't respond. To a sense, she was relieved that it didn't. She laid down to the ground and gently crawled over to the clothing that was hanging on the bed. Time under the rift's cruel iron grip made her extremely agile and quiet, learning to erase all sense of emotion and intent.

Quickly, she took the clothes and moved her way back into the bathroom, getting herself ready.

Not long after, she was clothed and looking into the mirror once more, her eyes avoiding her mirror image, instead her hands moved to her choker, still holding the pendant Tyime had given her. She smiled at the feeling of the metal, of the gem that hid in the middle, a gateway to the void.

—He's tracking you. He'll know.

—Do you care?
—Do you care?

It was getting louder, and it was driving her out of the window. She focused her senses on the choker, holding it with a hand fully wrapped around it, she never learned how to properly use it. After returning to her dimension, Tyime explained to her the full utility of the pendant he had given her. A powerful gift, and now she wanted to use it for more than just protection.

She remembered how Tyime would break through reality and appear somewhere else entirely. Her curiosity now had been driven to its limit. She wanted to go back.

She wanted to go home and see once more.

Cassandra allowed the fire to consume her once more, the darkness inside her mind sizzling as her own body temperature increased. The choker spread around her body, enveloping her into the veil that opened the void to her, but she needed not its solitude but its speed.

It can listen to us.
Then it'll be easier.
And if it doesn't listen?
I need answers.
We burn it.
No. We pass through it.
Together.

Together.

Clicking her teeth, she broke the veil and entered the void on her own terms. The void slowly came around her, asking its questions, demanding consumption. She didn't inquire into any of its demands. The void hissed, it approached closer to her, it demanded more, it demanded consumption of what was denied to it before.

—We need passage.

Without knowing, her skin slowly started to sizzle, to burn and itch as the armor slowly started to consume her feet under the clothing.

The void crawled closer and closer from all angles, demanding to be given what was rightfully its, denying passage over its reality. Cassandra looked down to the tendrils of the void, ready to attach to her and consume.

With her feet now covered in its creeping armor, she stepped over the tendrils. The void withdrew, screeching over the agony of the fire. It consumed back, it was relentless and non-ending, just like the void. It quickly cut off its burning tendril to avoid damaging the dimension. The void more angrily started to form up around her as she made her way further into the void, trotting to her destination.

It wasn't far in comparison to going to her destination on foot, it felt like a cloth she could hold on to if only she could reach it.

And she'd reach it.

As Tyime descended through his dream it would be abruptly and violently shifted as the void screamed in Tyimes head "IT BURNS! IT BURNS! IT MOCKS THE SON! SHE MOCKS THE SON!" Tyime would be instantly ripped away from his slumber.

Quickly sitting up Tyime would consciously look around as sweat was dripped from his face, Cassie he thought "Damnit woman." Tyime would quickly step into the void.

what lay before him was sheer chaos, Cassie and her flames burning at the void as she walked through it. As the void burned Tyime would be brought down to his knees in sheer agony "Cassie please stop this!" Tyimes growling tone would echo loudly throughout the void, all the while the void continued to scream in his head.

it was too much.
So much pain.
"MAKE IT STOP."
Tyime would smash a fist into the floor of the void, rendering it deathly silent, allowing Tyime to quietly hold his head in pain.

"Why are you hurting me Cassie?" his voice low, somber, confused.
"Why?" He knew she needed closure, but to hurt him in the process? he thought. That didn't seem right, that didn't seem like her, like Cassie at all.

She stopped on her steps and looked around, his voice echoing under the ground, but he was nowhere to be seen.

—Let him burn.
—No. Not him.
—We can reach it soon.
—He's my friend.

—He's a vessel of the void.

It was right, painfully so. For if he wasn't one of the void then he'd have no reason to also burn. Doubt began to cloud her mind, many possibilities of what could be described as him could simply be the void waiting for her. She was afraid it was right, that Tyime wasn't his own person, it saddened her.

But his pain was nothing she ever wanted, as he had done nothing to her.

—Didn't he?

She questioned it too yet never dared to ask what happened that day. She stopped on her feet, the void relentlessly pushing back to surround her once more, demanding with a more primitive tone to give up her life for the consumption. She continue to ignore its call, to her the void was nothing but another creature, but Tyime was different.

He has to be different.

Gently, she sat on her knees and looked into the ground that made the void, it was ash under her feet as her own presence seemed to be a contradiction of this dimension now that fire was hers. She placed her hands on the ground, sinking her limbs under its pitch black sand. The void took this chance to creep ever closer to her, mere inches from consuming her. She knew the risks, but needed more than just assumptions.

Following her instinct, she started to hue her hands in red and make her own roots into the earth, the void screeched further as she took a hold of one small spot in the vast dimension.

—Feel how he speaks and emulate it, he said.

The voice in her own head had gone quiet all the sudden, as did the voice of the void. It was only the two of them now. She was nervous, trembling almost, but she needed to hear it coming from him before she ventured further. Her voice was now clear in her head for the first time, and with this, she poured her emotions into her words as they reached Tyime under the void.

—Did you do it? Did your actions killed my family?

-Did you do it? Did your actions killed my family?

Cassie had finally spoke, he felt the connection, her words filled with emotion. Fear, despair, anger. Tyime so weary at this point, the pain had turned to a feint ache as he would silently glance up towards Cassie his eyes holding a somber look as he weaved to her "Of course I didn't Cassie, but it would seem that your having a hard time believing, so instead, I will show you everything that had happened while you were in a coma that day."

Tyime would grunt as the pain was still present while he crawled over to Cassie, gently placing his head against hers, flooding her mind with what had happened that day.

The hospital were he had left her behind. The pain he felt seeing her in such a terrible state.
His rage that overwhelmed him so. Wanting to stop this madness.
The palace, where it all happened. Where it will never be the same.
The mad dwarf taking the power of the crystal. The power that was no ones to claim.
he tried. Tired so hard to stop him. The aching pain of failure. Not being able to protect her.

Protect her.
There was nothing he could do. The madman absorbing the crystal. ending everything, forcing him to retreat to the void.

Tyime winced feeling the overwhelming emotions rise to the surface again. Tyime would quietly pull away leaning back on his hand as the pain washed over him. It hurts so much he thought.
Tyime glanced up at Cassie weaving to her
"Now you know what I know." his tone somber in her mind as he'd lay down, as the pain was too overpowering.

Feeling it rock him to his core, over and over.

Cassandra watched the events from his point of view. She could feel his rage as if it was her own, her desperation to end it all, it was similar to his. He had grown too many regrets over time.

She was thankful he was innocent, he was the only thing she had left and didn't want to lose her care for him. Love, would be a strong word for her still, she needed to finish one chapter of her life to enter the next one. Her hands slowly unearthed themselves and she stood up, looking down to him.

He was weak now.

Even if she didn't move for long, her own existence was a danger to his own, his body proved it as small cracks formed up on his skin. She took her hands over to his face, her flames long gone by now, brushing the ashen tears from his skin with her fingers.

—Let me go.

She looked over to one of the bigger tendrils, it complied. If it could not consume her then it wanted nothing with her but to disappear on her own. it cracked another veil into the original world, sand and an incredibly hot weather entered the void as the portal grew large enough for her to exit.

Then, she leaned down to kiss Tyime, brushing his lips with her fingers before jumping into the portal, entering the vast deserts of Yanamar, the gate closing behind her as the void took this chance to recover the burnt ground she left in her wake, all but one spot where she linked herself with the dimension.

Numb.
The only description for Tyime.
It had been a couple weeks since Cassie had left.
It felt,
Cold.
Empty.
Lonely.

It was a strange feeling Tyime had slowly been coming to terms with as the days blended together. The days turning into weeks with no understanding nor answers, just more questions. All his efforts were for nigh. His city had been the only thing he'd force his attention on as of late, it kept him busy, kept him distracted.

The city had made quick progress as the weeks went by, the farms now concreated and blooming with the pairing of being connected to the river, the cities source of clean water. With this, alleviating the shortage of food and raising the overall morale of the city as a whole.

The people were thriving, strongly, and with the raw minerals at their disposal, allowed the city to further grow, making strong tools and weapons alike. AS the overall value of Sanctuary began to grow, Tyime would spend most of his time in meetings with the various crews, discussing building plans and expansion ideas. The biggest concern that had been brought up to Tyime was the lack of access to the city itself, in the past the only way any new resident's that came to live in Sanctuary would have to climb to the cave where he used to live. Tyime understood this and decided to push for a building to be built far west where the construction had been going on. and with that came the first official entrance of Sanctuary.

xRmRnOf.jpg

What the builders had come up with was far better then Tyime would have expected. Using the natural form of the mountains they had created a well defensible entrance to Sanctuary. With that came the need for a guard regime to be posted at the entrance. The rules were simple, to simply question any traveler of their intentions for entering the city, that was all. If deemed ill willed then they were to be sent packing, otherwise free entry would be granted. But if merchants were to come then a small toll of 5% of earnings were to be forwarded to Sanctuary funds.

Tyime would quietly stroll his now bustling city, a somber smile played across his face as he glanced around silently.

"I wish you were here to see this Cassie."

A crack from her whip split the last of the Rift creatures in the zone. Around her a dozen corpses of her foes laid bare, dismantling into dust as they returned to the dimension they came from.

images (18) (1).jpeg

They were weak in contrast to the rumors brought around the mountains, but they were too numerous to be held back by the common means of defense the people had made alongside the Molosva Ruins, keeping the massive rift in the sky at bay. Thankfully it had remained of the same size, so the risk of the bigger creatures coming through were too slim to worry.

She cleaned her sword with the ragged cloak she found under the rubble of what remained of the city, it fit her just right to cover her face under its hood, giving her a more intimidating presence to the villagers.

Efforts to make an offense against the rift were made, multiple races had to offer their help, and as of late even trained military elites to help the new recruits.

images (18) (47).jpeg
The defense was coming along well, but it'd take time before they became efficient. A single attack from a scout party of creatures would cost the lives of a dozen men before they were put down. This is where her efforts were in place.

She had saved a small family of farmers from the creatures and since then has patrolled around the zone to protect them from those that hid under. She never asked for anything other than information. She needed to know what happened after the accident. Of course, none of the people knew how to talk through their mind and she had yet to master it, so written word was used whenever she needed something.

It made her nostalgic to see the people being kind as the city had been once before. Rather than a high hierarchy, the village fortress had a small council to decide the path of its people, comformed by the survivors of the blast prior.

They had turned their anger into resolve and dedication to prevent it from happening ever again. It was commendable, but foolish.

The rumors she heard spoke of the nearby cities developing technology unlike anything before, hot steam would pour out of the nearby mountains, agitating and deteriorating the relations the dwarves once had with the elves.

For now the village fortress acted as a single neutral zone for this coming conflict with an unknown time.

This however was none of her concern anymore. Their politics mattered little.

Cassandra walked over to the graves she had made for her family, it took time to gather any of her belongings still remaining under the earth, with so many consecutive raids from the enemy.

The enemies pouring out we're becoming more frequent, their size increasing with each they slew. Her presence was a beacon for them to hunt, soon she needed to go back.

He's not waiting for you.
He is.

While Tyime helped to progress his city he would sense a beating drum sound from everywhere. Quickly Tyime would begin searching around his city looking for the rift that would soon be opening.
As he moved towards the far west area that was still under construction, the drumming would become deafening as Tyime glance onward as the Rift began ripping open.
Tyime would turn and weave to the entire city "WE ARE ON HIGH ALERT, A RIFT IS OPENING, TO BATTLE!" but what came out shook him to his core, along with the horde pouring out in droves, came a beast like none other.
MthQzHm.jpg

The beast would roar loudly as Tyime exploded into his true form, the flame in his chest turning to the dark purple hue as it grew dangerously high "PROTECT THE CITY!" Tyime roared as he stood his ground. This will be Sanctuary's toughest fight yet he thought.

In her travels, she'd often see less and less creatures around the village fortress. It didn't bode well for a place with food gathering in by the day and one of the bigger rifts across the dimensions. It didn't help the matter the rif itself had been beating relentlessly over the past few days.

The townsmen, mercenaries and elite corps were on edge for days until one fateful evening, the portal stopped drumming entirely. On that day Cassandra couldn't sleep, her entire body begging her to fight or run away.

Her instincts proved correct. From the portal a single entity that defied its gravity force slowly floated into their dimension, landing its roots into the earth.

images (18) (43).jpeg
From the center he held a levitating cube, a source of power that forced her body to cover itself in its armor immediately after it started to glow red.

She wanted to shout to the people across town to run away, for they were no match, but with no voice to speak up and her looks only intimidating those around her, she quickly thought of an immediate solution as she blasted a flare into the sky, lighting up the entire region.

images (18) (50).jpeg

The message was clear.

AWAY!
