Aevar caught the sharp whistle but when he looked he saw that Alegna's attention was on some other soldier. Must have been openly complaining or standing around doing nothing. And now his punishment was to do a sparring match with the teenager. The other soldier was a bit older than Aevar. Perhaps two years older. Aevar guessed that he is not taking anything seriously due to coming here not out of personal choice.

The teenager watched the young man approach him before picking up a blunted axe. He surely was more talk than action. Aevar shrugged, "Perhaps. But who are we to complain? She earned her right for everything that comes with her rank. We have no right to that." He told the other soldier before the chatterbox went in for the attack.

A few blows were exchanged between the weapons. But Aevar could see the other young man made the mistake of holding the axe with both hands to put power behind swings that Aevar was able to block with relative ease. That was until the soldier came at Aevar with a horizontal swing. Hooking the sharpened end of the other man's axe with the body of his he used that grapple to throw the soldier of her shoulder and onto the ground. He will then kick the dulled weapon away.

He knew that is not the end of the sparring match until the Centurion said so. The two young men may see themselves going at it for hours with these axes.

She simply glanced at the man, humming in contemplation, then nodded once. "You can have your own tent, but make sure you're well supplied from the armory. We keep sharp hours here, at morning call is five minutes to assemble until midday. Drills will be done every ten minutes before sparring partners are swapped. You are paid to train," she glanced at him, smirking slightly, "boys who were farmers, and never hefted swords. I expect a fine-footed fighter like yourself can suitably train men-at-arms; prove yourself and I may yet promote with more coin."

She watched Aevar after that, nodding once in approval.

"See this lad?" she nodded to the mercenary, Gabriel, so he would look. "Fresh-faced, young. But already handy with an axe; cavalry is my thought."

She paced away, arms crossed. "We will train until your arms are too tired to swing, and then we will train again!" she commanded calmly, eyes hard and cold. "And I will be training drills amongst you; any who do not pull their weight will feel the drill twice as much. We are Norian. We are not broken men. Do you understand?"

She waited to hear their response, then drew her own sword.

"Now then; time for some dancing lessons. Who's first?"

Gabriel made a small bow. "You will have my loyalty and sword...As long as I get paid off course." He said with a cheeky smile. He looked around the camp and nodded. "I'm sure I can get these men in shape, I've been fighting almost my entire life so I can guarantee you house Ralik will have a formidable army at their command once I am through with them."

Gabriel looked at the young man she nodded towards and grinned. "He's okay, which is more than I can say for some of these 'soldiers.' As luck would have it I am also a very good rider, I can train some of the cavalry lads as well if you so desire."

Before she paced away, Gabriel gently put his arm on her shoulder. "Before you go ser, I would prefer to draw up the terms of my employment, perhaps we can speak about them in private this evening." He said with a serious look on his face.

After her response, he would let her go and observe her as she gave her speech. He smirked and waited to see who would answer her call.

Aevar shook his head with disapproval as his sparring buddy decided to stay one the ground instead of getting back up to do another round. It wasn't that hard of a toss over his shoulder either. His sparring buddy may be either a wimp or using the toss as an excuse to stay out of training for as long as he can.

Honestly the teenager expected more due to how the young man was talking seconds before their match began. Maybe that is the case then. A wimp who is more talk than action.

He looked up and over to Gabriel as she got his attention and nodded towards the noble. The teenager silently looked from the noble to Alegna as she finished up her speech by asking who will go first. Before the other men could step forward, Aevar will step out of the line that had formed as the soldiers trickled in to listen to what she had to say, "I will, Sur." He say in response to her question.

She smiled at the lad, Aevar, answering her call... but merely nodded at Gabriel, giving a subtly raised brow at his touching her shoulder. She should have called him out on such casual touch, but meantime she wasn't going to worry about that.

She held her sword at mid-guard in both hands, nodding to the lad Aevar. "Right then, lad, show them the proper form to a forward lunge at me," she encouraged, standing firm.

She waited to see how he would execute the strike.

Gabriel watched the centurion and the boy with curiosity. He walked towards the other soldiers and stood next to them, watching both of them fight. He had no doubt that the centurion would win easily but he was interested to see how good the boy fought, to see how much work he had to do to train him so that he would at least not get himself killed during the first minutes of fighting.

He also took this time to look over the other soldiers, most of them appeared to be inexperienced and he let out a soft sigh. "I do hope I'll get payed well teaching these fools not to die." He thought to himself.

Aevar watched as the Centurion got into a stance with the sword the knight held at midgaurd in both hands. The teenager didn't bother to look at all the others that gathered to watch. Not even a glance to Gabriel as he stood by the other soldiers.

Well this lesson will be good with holding an ace or a sword. But he had enough of the axe as it still doesn't feel right in his hands. So he tossed it down to the ground the attack end of the axe burying in the ground. Unsheathing his sword Aevar he should be able to perform what was requested of him to the Centurion's expectations as he has practiced this and other things many times with his brother and father.

Stepping forward a couple steps to close the gap, on the third step he will lunge forward jabbing his sword onto Alegna's. He is not sure what the Centurion is expecting since his brother and father taught him sword skills that they knew. Not what he would be having to learn in the military.

She laughed aloud at his lunge, countering with an angle of her wrist to brush it aside, but nodded once. "Good, good. But watch your knees, lad, they're too open and if I were to be aggressive," she mocked a swift step in, followed by a push by her off-hand and pretending to sweep her leg behind as though to trip him.

"...it wouldn't have been good. But a good, hard strike," she nodded once in approval, then patted him on the shoulder. "Who's next?"

Turn by turn each soldier was given a simple drill instruction, and pairing off resumed once more, with her interrupting to check there or correct here. Soon, it seemed, animosity was forgotten in the face of curiosity, and then by concentration.

By the time high noon had rolled, even Alegna was hot and wearied. A horn blasted, and she held up a hand to cease drills. "Mess time!" she called out, waving the men towards the hall, then glanced to Gabriel. "We will talk while we eat. But I must warn you, I do not dine separately from my men."

It was a rule she lived by as a Centurion, and now as a Commander. She took her role to whip them into fighting shape seriously; it was one of her many duties, along with managing their accounts, plausible counts, and, when night rolled in, riding in with a company of her men to strategize with Lord Silas over the next plausible points of attack.

For now, their limited numbers were for mercenary strikes in the dark, no siege or open field. But with this latest number, she hoped to make them cavalry and man-at-arms ready; their archers had already been set for now, but there also laid the question of a reliable quartermaster, and the approval of the people. After all, a glorious war was all well and good, but winning their hearts was a sure sign to turn the tide of any war, for after the war they lived with these serfs, peasants and commonfolk, and she felt more in kindred with them than with any nobility or court.

So saying, she tilted her head and began striding to the mess tent.

Well the young man was already expecting that there will be something he will have to work on. Like his posture as Alegna pointed out to him. While it was embarrassing to have what he needs to work on pointed out to him in front of the other men. It is better than mistakes that the other men made like the one that held his sword too loosely in his hand and so the weapon knocked out of his hand. There were others that had equally embarrassing mistakes.

So Aevar's mistake while can be a deadly mistake in combat is a relatively minor mistake to make during training. It is something that the teenager can easily work on and improve. He will just have to take the time to practice.

Which Arvar did as the Centurion sparred with the other men until it was announced that it is mess time.

He will follow Alegna to the mess tent, as did most of the men currently training. When he got his food and took a seat the teenager quietly ate his food. Unlike the other men who complained about the quality of the food Aevar will not mutter a single word. Growing up poor taught him that food is food no matter the quality of it. This will be as much as he will say when a man sitting next to him asked, "Isn't the food horrible? by replying, "It doesn't matter how it tastes. Food is still food. As long as it fills your stomach there should be nothing to complain about." he will say before going back to quietly eating.

Gabriel watched the sparring with amusement, he had a lot of work to do to get these men into fighting shape. After the sparring was over the centurion glanced and talked to him and he nodded politely. "I do not mind sir Ralik, if I am to train these men I would also like to get to know them a bit better."

As she walked away Gabriel followed her and took some of the food before sitting down on the opposite side of her. He looked at the food for a moment and groaned internally, as a vampire he could not stomach food anymore, the only thing he drank was blood so this would be a slight predicament. He looked up from his plate and smiled at the centurion. "So, if I am to take this job I'd like to know several things if you would not mind madam."

He looked around for a moment before leaning in slightly. "Also I have something I think you should be aware of sir but this is something I would be more comfortable discussing in private, but we will get to that later, for now, I would like to know what my wage is going to be."

She was inwardly pleased. She had found, what she believed, someone who could become her next in line for command. He was young, strong, and humble; though she didn't mind nobles, the common man often grew best in command when encouraged, and though this sellsword that sat beside her seemed the honorable type, he was at heart not for the cause for glory or personal stake. She would withhold judgement until a later time.

Meantime, she tilted her head towards Gabriel as food was served. True, it was little more than gruel with some wild nuts sprinkled in for added 'flavor', but an army was fed stoutly, not luxuriously, and the expense was not yet a commodity. "Most of this food is from my House," she commented to the man who complained of quality, one blonde brow raised. "Does Ralik suffer in the quality of your stomach?"

He sputtered, turning dark red, but she grinned, and a few scattered chuckles soon followed. "I take no offense, soldier, for this life is different than you'd hoped. But stay with it, you will soon get the glory you no doubt deserve."

If they thought this was terrible, then they clearly hadn't trained in the Legion of Rishoka.

She glanced towards Gabriel once more, noting he hadn't gathered any food for himself. "Oh right," she replied simply, shrugging. "Your share is the same as any of my own lieutenants; prove yourself in battle and the spoils will also increase." It was a vague number, but she was beginning to grow weary of his persistence. "Twenty gold per week, increased with the quality of men you bring and train. Food and expenses, within a certain number, supplied, but no exorbitant expense. Unfortunately... war is a heavy business." She tilted her head slightly at him, hazel gaze calm.

"Does that answer your questions so far, Ser Hawklight?"

While she’d had to keep herself physically ready when moving job to job, the strictures of the Norian training regimen had certainly hit her hard today anyhow. She had signed up not so long ago, seeking food, ale, and steady coin. Rare was ongoing work that wasn’t little more than glorified guard duty, and she didn’t pity her lot enough to lay quite so low.

The Norian cause was something else. Easy wants had given way to a bit of pride, or so Runa has admitted to herself. That she had stumbled into the right side of history here. She knew what it was to be under the thumb of those who might as well have wanted you gone from this earth entire. To demand a place in it was the only right thing to do. And now she was part of the fist that did demand it, and that was a good place to be. She had not yet met the Commander though, and when she sat by in conversation with a pair of others she did not recognise, she spied what would be her chance. Letting the mercenary respond first, she looked over and spoke up,

“Commander,” her voice confident “brothers” She nodded at the pair that had been in conversation moments before,

“I don’t wish to speak out of turn but, come the next raid” Runa’s voice rolled over her words in the way peculiar to the Nal Akima accent, her own harsh contralto voice a distinct counterpoint to the delivery “Well, ‘twould not be the first time I’ve lead troops on a hit an‘ run” no doubt the commander got her meaning, she was angling to prove herself,

“Should there be need, of course” she looked at the two men seated alongside, they may very well have already been in her confidence. Runa though was not one to stand quiet when she thought she had something to offer.

Aevar heard no complaints from any of the men. Which was a relief because the young man would have found himself getting frustrated. He had to force himself to remember that not all come from a background the same as him where getting even enough food to stave off starvation was a rare occurrence. He silently ate his food, listening to the conversation between Gabrial and Alegna.

He looked up as a woman came into the tent. She immediately offered her services to the commander as well. It seemed that Alegna's call to arms is spreading and reaching able bodied soldiers far and wide. The young man wondered how many more will come to the camp as a response to Alegna's message that is spreading around.

Naturally it is not his call to accept the woman's services since he is not the commanding officer. He will leave that to the Centurion to decide. His food eaten and his hunger satisfied. There was no longer a reason for the boy to remain there. He wanted to get back to training so he stood up. Placed his used dining materials in the dirty dishes bucket and walked out of the tent.

Gabriel listened to Alegna intently, nodding as she spoke. "A fair sum, I accept the job and will serve until the goals of house Ralik are met." He said with sincerity. "I have fought many battles and have travelled far and wide, I am confident in my ability to excel under your command, ser Ralik." He looked at his food and let out a small sigh as he pushed the plate slightly away from him. "I do not mean to be rude but I am not hungry as of yet, I already ate before I came here. "

He cracked his neck. "I have some things I wish to discuss with you later ser Ralik, but I'd rather discuss them privately."

He was about to say something else when a woman walked in, he listened to her for a moment, not seeming particularly interested in what she had to say. When she finished talking he turned towards Aevar. "Lad, would you care for another plate? I am not hungry so you may have my food if you want it." He said with a small smile.

Arya closed her eyes for the moment, lost in some thought about one of the tale she was writing. That is right...a shape-shifter served the synopsis well, a metaphor for the changing circumstances that people had to cope with. A simple idea but if given the attention and a solid plot to back it up it might be a story worth telling, however abstract it seemed right now......

"No, there will be no time for that right now. You do not want to walk into this camp looking like your head is flying somewhere else. Stay focused, this is the first camp that you have been assigned to" her mind screamed at her but her love for imaginative writing, the arts and literature persistently teased her to continue to delve into her ideas, her thoughts and her worries.

Almost immediately something warped her back to reality.

The young woman cautiously approached the camp, wearing the dark green robes that were assigned to a person who had just completed their training within healing magic. She was being assigned to this camp in Noria, having understood they had much odds to conquer and were fighting for the House of Ralik, one of the many influential houses in Noria.

She did not appear to know much, rather green, and not just because of the colour of her robes. A somewhat thin woman with nutty brown eyes and long straight hair the fell past her shoulders, though at the moment she had tied it halfway up for practicality but her eyes were filled with nerves. However much green she looked, she was finally recognised as an adept healer magi who was confident in using her abilities to deal with a range of injuries rendering from minor to major injuries.

Of course she still had a lot to learn. She had taken various spell-books and tomes that she often had to remind herself about because harnessing the Myst was tricky indeed, as well as the basic gear she needed. If she manipulated it to a higher degree she would often feel tired and drain herself but her ability over it would only grow with age and experience. When the familiar tingle of the Myst came in the form of healing magic, she could only now grow in potential.

She swallowed but then made the effort to bat her nerves away, moving with a confident but not cocky stride towards a soldier and explaining who she was, her application, her acceptance as a trained healer and confirmed her identity with some parchments. The soldier then directed her towards a tent and then walked away without a word.

She paused, coming to the entrance of the tent, a few soldiers nodding at her slowly before allowing her to proceed inside. She entered, observant and spotted a boy not much younger than her inside there, he looked oddly familiar, perhaps he was an Optio. She thought she might have seen him around the Low Town before, where she grew up. A Centurion as she recognised by the armour, a man who was smiling at the boy, having left the meal he was eating, he did not appear a soldier, perhaps a sword for hire or a mercenary, she thought. Another woman speaking to the Centurion. She appeared to be confident and bold in her abilities, maybe another mercenary or sell-sword.
"...I apologise for this interruption but I was directed here by one of the soldiers. They said that if I wished to be allocated to a tent then I must speak to the Centurion that is in charge. I do believe that is you Ser......I am one of the new healers......I am sorry for bothering you, I just needed to inform you" Arya spoke in a calm and quiet voice doused with a formal and respectful tone, but there was a solidarity to her words.

She would have continued to elaborate on the services that she could offer for the House of Ralik but she did not wish to interrupt them. Instead she calmly stood there, head lowered and waited once more, losing herself in thought and wondering if she had made the right decision. She had healed many patients skilfully even soldiers but this the first proper camp she had been assigned to.

She waited patiently to be addressed, deciding that she could wait if she had to and besides she needed to study and review some of the powerful mapping spells and vitality one as well. She stood there, in a corner of the tent transfixed with a leather bound blue book, titled on the spine was " Advanced Manipulation the Myst: Healing" which was a widely recognised series for bloodlines who wanted to specialise in their chosen form of magic.

And yet, she longed to catch a spare moment where she could walk outside, ponder and begin her new tale.
